was hot on the heels of Osman’s Yousefzada collection at the show. Bright block shocking colours were prominent throughout this trend show. Block colour contrasts were popular too – Think a sherbet orange dress paired with a purple fitted coat. Visible chunky zips, bright accent belts and unusual colour combinations such as Blue Yellow and Black all worked together in perfect harmony.

Style Birmingham Live 24-26 September hosted by George Lamb promised to show case the hottest Autumn/Winter trends from the finest boutiques and major high street retailers – and boy did it ever!

UK acclaimed British Designer opened the catwalk show with deep midnight blue gowns contrasted with accents of grey pale hues and gem encrusted platforms. Jersey fabric played a key role in his collection that wowed the critics at London Fashion Week. ‘Fashion In Motion’ illustrated the movement of fashion with the human body. Minimal and simplistic designs were accented with sparkles, and gems. Feather collars placed on the perfect LBD made Osman Yousefzada collection shine.

Ruth Crilly is a London based international fashion model with a successful career spanning almost ten years. She has appeared in hundreds of editorial and advertising shoots, including Elle magazine, Grazia, Myla Lingerie and Patrick Cox. Ruth shares her experiences and her top tips in ‘A Model Recommends’ - an online treasure trove of beauty reviews, behind the scenes videos and favourite model ‘finds’. Q. Kindred Sole Edition – What is your top beauty secret? A. Ruth Crilly - I moisturize RELIGIOUSLY. I rarely forget to do it - it would be like forgetting to get dressed! Q. KSE - Do you have a favourite beauty trend of the season? A. RC - I tend not to follow beauty trends too much - I think that the majority of women want to make the best out of their features, not 'channel a catwalk trend' and so I stick to looks and shades that

Ruth was upping the beauty and fashion stakes at Style Birmingham Live We took the opportunity to quiz her on all things Fashion and Beauty…. suit me. Usually quite a neutral, 'glowy' palette with a smokey eye if I'm feeling glam! The neutral look comes around (with a slight variation) almost every season and I'm all for it - I think that perfect skin and a defined eye beats all other looks hands down! Q. KSE - What is your must have beauty buy? A. RC - My most repurchased items EVER are Clinique's Take the Day Off

(eye makeup remover) and Clarins One Step Cleanser. I have been buying these for years and years and know that they work! In terms of makeup, my must-have beauty buy of the moment would have to be NARS Multiple Tint in Beverly Hills - you just slick it on and have instant blush. It hardly even needs blending!

Q. KSE - What is the best thing about being a beauty blogger? A. RC - Is getting to try products before they've even launched. As a model, I've always had access to as much makeup as I could ever wish for, but it's even more special to test out things that haven't even reached the shelves yet.

A. RC - It was an incredible experience to be part of Style Birmingham Live. Hosting the shows at the Pavilions was a lot of fun and it was amazing meeting Birmingham's Fashionistas and style-queens!

Lust Have Trends

Q. Kindred Sole Edit - Why did you decide to start the blog 'Big Fashionista'? A. Big Fashionista - I decided to start my blog last year after a chat with a friend about writing make up reviews. I thought it looked and sounded like fun so thought I would jump straight into it. As you do. 9 months later I am still loving everything about blogging and enjoy developing my own style as I grow as a writer. Q. KSE– Where do you get your inspiration? A. BF - I get my inspiration from everywhere. Especially now I do a lot more lifestyle and opinion pieces. I try to read all the papers and see what is big news and give my opinion. Other times it could just be something that pops into my head in the middle of the night. Like the "Sock monster" post, Sock monsters ARE important issues you know.

Q. KSE – Is ‘Big Fashionista’ your alter eg – Who is she? A. BF - Big Fashionista is DEFINATELY an alter ego, i'm really a 58 year old man called Bob (Kidding) Yes, BF is confident, forthright and doesn't hold back on her opinions, I imagine her to be beautifully dressed at all times and have long painted fingernails that tip tap on the keyboard with grace. Q. KSE – Favourite Twitter/Blogger you like to follow? A. BF - Has to be the fantastic @Bangsandabun at That woman can make me laugh and take a good hard look at myself all in one blog. and she raps dontcha know !!! Q. KSE – How would you describe your style? A. BF - My style is harassed mother. Seriously!!! I don't know how I get dressed in the morning. But if I am going out, I like to look glamorous, I take the time to make sure I glam it up from head to toe.

Q. KSE – What’s the best thing about being a blogger? A. BF - When as a collective over 100 bloggers pulled together and exposed the story behind the M.A.C/Rodarte Juarez collection which eventually led to the collection being pulled and a donation being promised to the people of Juarez. That was the proudest I have ever been of being a blogger. knowing that we CAN make a difference as a group we made our voices heard. Q. KSE – What is your fave shoe trend for 2010/11? A. BF - Boots, Give me calf length leather boots and I am a happy fashionista all day long! They can be heeled, flat, I don't care. I just adore a well made pair of leather boots.

‘The Modern Girl’s Guide To Fabulousness’ Interview with Author: Bethanie Lunn Supermodel Elle Macpherson "separating the so so from the sensational" What are your fail safe instant fabulous pick-me-ups when you’re feeling a little less than well, fabulous? If you look your best, you feel your best but I’m a big believer in minimum effort, maximum results when it comes to my beauty regime! I opt for beauty treatments that leave me feeling pampered along with a boost in spirits. Blink + Go Lash Extensions are a very quick way to looking, and therefore feeling, fabulous. They only take 20 minutes and last around two weeks. The lashes are applied over and in between your own lashes to add volume, thickness and length. Extra flutter-ability = instant confidence. Buying a good skin illuminator also works wonders – applied like a facial moisturiser, it will make you look as though you’ve had the best nights sleep, even if the truth is otherwise. What makes a woman utterly fabulous? Confidence and self-belief. If you don’t believe in yourself, no amount of lip gloss or delicious stilettos will make you fabulous ! they’re just the wonderful bonuses that enhance your already fabulous self. It’s not just How did you come up with the idea for your book the Modern Girls Guide to Fabulousness? Firstly, I think it is what’s on your feet; it’s what’s in your head. about time someone cut all the C.R.A.P out of this noisy ad-inundated world and delivered news and tips on what really is great out there, giving tried and tested, unbiased, not bribed-by-money opinions. I have cut to the chase to promote intelligent spending, so women know what and where to spend their time and money with confidence (now more essential than ever). It’s also part of my role as a style and beauty writer and presenter to source stories, new ventures and covetable finds. Throw in my genuine passion to support new talent and note my in-demand opinion to industry and peers of ‘where to go, what to try, who to wear’ – then you have the workings of an incredibly desirable little black book of contacts and sources. As Elle MacPherson said - "Bethanie separates the so-so from the sensational" In your opinion how do you take an outfit from so-so to sensational? Accessories can turn an outfit from drab to darling in an instant and without breaking the bank. I count lipstick as an accessory so teaming the ordinarily plain combo of a cute tee and jeans with red lippy and a trilby hat turns you into a glamazon in seconds. Heels always make me feel sensational and due to the added height they provide, they give the illusion of looking longer and leaner. You’ll have to buy my book for the best tips in how to walk in high heels though! How would you describe your fashion style? A large spoonful of glamour and femininity sprinkled with a handful of playfulness and quirkiness. I’m a big hat fan and love to wear kid’s jewellery too as it shows my sense of humour and confidence. I like to be original and love making people look twice (whether in shock or admiration)! What has been your No: 1 find whilst researching for your book? That’s a tough one. There have been so many wonderful discoveries, after all – only the most fabulous have made it in the book and I toured the entire country to find them. It’s an A-Z guide brimming with advice from me and celebrities, tips for busy parents, spa reviews, restaurants and hotels to suit your mood and occasion, a whole section on shopping… I won’t give too much away but I will say – you must try burlesque dancing, you have to fly a gyrocopter and drink a six inch stiletto Are there any more books in the pipeline? Indeed! The Modern Girl’s Guide to Fabulousness is my first book but I will be producing a series of books in specialist areas and for other countries. You can expect The Modern Girl’s Guide to parenting, The Modern Girl’s Guide Stateside and even The Modern Girl’s Guide Down Under. They’ll become collectors items, like the coolest, most accessible travel guides and lifestyle bibles you’ve ever owned – tour guides that tell you the secret addresses of your chosen city, the places you really want to know about (rather than the tourist landmarks we all know about already), you won’t want to put them down.

Behind The Scenes of Kindred Sole’s Debut Photo-Shoot

Talent Alert

Kindred Sole had put together two Autumn Winter 2010 collections, 'Femme Fatale' and 'Woodland Wonder'. A photoshoot was then necessary. We called upon Photographer and Designer Kim Turrell, the founder of Kimberley-Jane Photography. Promise Armstrong, Fashion Retail Buying Student was selected as our campaign model. Kim photographed Promise in a combination of stories from stables for 'Woodland Wonder' to a JCB truck for 'Femme Fatale'. As soon as the photoshoot began we knew we were going to have a number of winning looks and photos that were going to be difficult to choose between. The day was an amazing success and the final photographs shown in our trend reports show this.

Underground Art

Each month Kindred Sole Edition showcases our fave art. From Illustrators, to fine artists, to graphic designers and everything in between. If you would like to be considered to be featured in our Underground Art section drop us an email

Kate Mainard: Graduated in 2009 from De Montfort University in Leicester where she studied Graphic Design.

We instantly fell in love with the understated simplicity of Kate’s designs. Her ‘cutsey’ style is feminine in design and has become her signature look. The three designs shown were chosen as Kindred Sole Edition’s favourites because they represent our favourite items!
