Activities and Event Evaluations Please take a moment to fill out the West Fargo Park District activities or events evaluation survey as you attend various park programs throughout the year. Your feedback allows us to make changes to help make our programs the best they can be. If you attended more than one class or activity this survey may be completed as many times as needed. Matching Funds Program The West Fargo Park District has matching fund dollars available for development of areas of special interest. These funds may only be utilized in West Fargo Park District facilities. Individuals or groups interested in pursuing a project are encouraged to contact Barb Erbstoesser, Executive Director at 433-5360. The Matching Funds application deadline is December 31, 2011.

YOUTH ACTIVITIES

Youth Activities Air Gun Shooting Sports This program is an introduction to shooting sports. The primary course objectives include instruction of safe air gun handling practices, sight alignment, trigger control and an introduction to international style shooting events. Participants must be accompanied by a responsible adult. For the safety of all participants, adults, and coaches, any student that demonstrates inappropriate or disruptive behavior will be removed from class immediately. All required equipment and materials including air pistols, supporting stands, pellets, targets, and eye protection are provided.

Babysitting Class with Pizza Party This is a class that covers an introduction to babysitting, responsibilities of babysitters and a checklist of important information. A handbook, including a DVD, will be given to each participant. Pizza and a beverage will be provided. Scholarships are provided through the American Red Cross if needed. Session Day

Fall Flag Football

Fall Flag Football league is for boys and girls ages 6-10. This is a recreational, non-competitive league designed for the participant to have fun and learn the basic skills of flag football. Football spikes and mouthguards are recommended but not required. • • • • • •

Please request T-shirt size on registration form. Please include school attending in 2011-2012 school year on registration form. Season runs August 16th - October 8th. Practices will be on Tuesday or Thursday evenings from August 16th - October 6th. Games will be on Saturdays beginning on September 10th. A schedule will be mailed out with practice and game information by August 12th.

Course Content

If skater needs assistance, is unable to get across ice alone or falls often this level is recommended. Instruction includes getting up from a fall, marching in place, forward marching and beginning stops.

If the skater can make it across the rink by him or herself without assistance. Skaters will learn skating and gliding forward, stopping, two-foot hops, and bubbles, as well as an intro to backward skating and gliding. Skater should pass Basic 1 to move to Basic 2.

Basic 3 & 4

Skaters will learn forward skating using the blades rather than marching and be introduced to edges, crossovers & three turns. Skater must pass Basic 2 to move to Basic 3 and pass Basic 3 to move to Basic 4.

Basic 5 & 6

Skaters will learn backward edges, backward crossovers, hockey stops, and one-foot spins, as well as t-stops, spirals, lunges, and bunny hops. Skater must pass Basic 4 to move to Basic 5 and pass Basic 5 to move to Basic 6.

Basic 7 & 8

Skaters will focus more extensively on edge work, turns, small jumps and spins. Skater must pass Basic 6 to move to Basic 7 and pass Basic 7 to move to Basic 8.

Volleyball teams will participate in league play and a tournament. A match consists of three games to 20 points (rally point system). All leagues are 6-player coed leagues and men cannot outnumber women on the court. This league will be focused on recreation and fun. Be sure to sign up early as space is limited. Code

Dog Obedience

Open Gym

The West Fargo Park District offers an 8 week dog obedience training. Dogs must have distemper, parvo and bordetella shots before attending lessons. Puppies may not have all of the above shots, but should have their shots up to date. Dogs must be on a leash. The class instructor is Doug Spieker. Classes

Outdoor Skating West Fargo has outdoor skating rinks with warming houses located in North Elmwood Park and Herb Tintes Park. Regular warming house hours are: Mondays through Fridays: 4:00-8:00pm Saturdays: 10:00am-8:00pm Sundays: 12:00-8:00pm These hours may change due to weather, activities or other reasons.

Rinks without warming houses are located in Maplewood Park and Rendezvous Park. Outdoor rinks usually open in late November depending on weather conditions.

Tae Kwon Do Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style of martial arts. The class instructor is Master Jerry Jenson, WTF certified. He holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Hap Kido. First time participants receive the first 2 weeks free. September 17 West Fargo Parks Dog Show

Location------------North Elmwood Park Time-----------------5:30-7:30pm Fee-------------------Free Enter your dog in this fun and recreational dog show. Awards will be presented to the Best Groomed, Best Dressed, Best Trick, Most Unusual Breed, and Best of Show. Visit with area pet vendors and sign up for door prizes. Free hot dogs and beverage. This event is sponsored by Bob 95.

September 17

The Fall Classic is a volleyball tournament for Men’s, Women’s and Coed Teams. Teams should consist of 6 players on the court and each team will be guaranteed a minimum of 4 matches. Round Robin format will be used followed by tournament play for the top seeded teams. Tournament rules and game schedules will be e-mailed to the captain the week of the tournament. Teddy Bear Tea Party

Honkin’ Haulin’ Hands on Trucks

Time----------------------1:00pm-3:00pm Location-----------------Veterans Memorial Arena Parking Lot Fee------------------------Free Get into the drivers’ seat of over 25+ trucks, tractors and construction equipment including a crane, snow plow, grader, pay loader, street sweeper, fire truck, bobcat skid-steer, 18-wheeler and much more. Carriage rides and barrel car rides will be provided. New York Life will be printing Child I.D. cards for each parent or guardian free of charge. The first 200 kids will receive a free t-shirt. Youth will also receive a personal driver’s license. Concessions will be available. This is a rain or shine event. This free event is sponsored by West Fargo Park District, City of West Fargo, Butler Machinery and Luther Family Ford.

Take time to “Build a Scarecrow.” You provide the creativity, clothes and accessories. The park district will provide the straw and the twine. Choose your favorite pumpkin and decorate for $3.00.

Snowmobile Safety Course

Time-------------------------9:00am-1:00pm Location--------------------Veterans Memorial Arena Fee--------------------------$20 The snowmobile safety certification class covers important safety information including: safe operation of snowmobiles, proper riding gear, proper riding techniques, helmet safety and North Dakota laws and guidelines. Riders 12 and older are required to either possess a valid driver’s license or a snowmobile safety certification. The class is open to all ages, but participants 12 and older wishing to get certified will need to pay a $20 registration fee. Call 1-701-328-5384 to pre-register.

Skating with Santa

Time-------------------------7:00-8:30pm Location---------------------Veterans Memorial Arena Skate to Christmas music while visiting Santa. Hot chocolate and refreshments will be served. A canned food item for the Fargo-Moorhead Food Pantry will be your ticket to get in.

Nail polish, lip gloss, blush and a fancy hair style fit for a princess are all a part of the fun at the Pretty Princess Party. Father-Daughter Sweetheart Dance

The Father-Daughter Dance is open to all young ladies ages 4-12 and their Dad, Favorite Uncle or Grandpa. The cost is $20 per couple ($10 for each additional daughter). Refunds

Once registered for an activity a refund will be issued only if the activity is cancelled or you provide a doctor’s note explaining a medical condition preventing you from participating.

You will not be contacted before activities begin.

To confirm that you are registered or to check on an activity’s start date, call 433-5360. Please note the early registration dates are not activity start dates.

Reduced Rates

Reduced rates may be offered to residents with limited ncomes. Eligibility is in accordance with recognized income guidelines for state and federal programs. For more information call 433-5360.

Special Interest Groups Youth Hockey Registration

Skills-Games-Teamwork-Fun-Exercise-New Friends

The West Fargo Hockey season will run from October 15th to early March for boys and girls ages 4-15. Information nights/registration will be at the Veterans Memorial Arena September 12th and 13th from 5:00-8:00 pm each night.

Walking Track The Veterans Memorial Arena features an indoor 1/8 mile walking/jogging track. Track schedules are posted monthly at the arena information center and at wfparks.org or call the Park District Information Line at 433-5363 and press #2 for the Veterans Memorial Arena updates.

Arena & Lobby Rental Information The Veterans Memorial Arena, the lobby, the multipurpose and meeting rooms are available for rent to public and private groups. For rental details call the Arena Manager at 433-5370.

Fitness Room Fitness equipment is available for public use at no fee. The room includes a treadmill, recumbent bike, universal weight machine, free weights and elliptical machine. Must be 18 years of age or older to use this faciltiy.

FM Athletics Football Team

FM Youth Football is tackle football with volunteer coaches provided by Fargo Athletics Inc. The league is for grades 4-8. For more information log onto fmathletics.com.
