The Tale of the Afghans Jean Danells is a 96 year old resident of Kennebec Manor who loves to knit and has a heart of gold. She began knitting dishcloths and selling them to raise money for our van and used to joke about making enough to buy all the tires. One day her son, Kevin, asked her to make him an afghan. She knitted a large number of squares and she and Elaine Kingston (from our Activity Dept) began crocheting them together. Kevin was thrilled with the finished project but donated it to Bobby’s Hospice after his sister passed away there. In turn, it was used for an auction and raised almost $300.00 for Bobby’s Hospice. Thus the afghans continued, Jean decided to make Kevin another one, big enough to cover his bed. Then came number three, a Christmas gift for her niece in Halifax...much to her surprise and delight! The latest, number four, is a smaller one she made for Elaine for all her help in crocheting them together. Jean is not sure if there will be any more as she is busy trying to catch-up on her dishcloth orders. God bless you and your busy fingers, Jean!
