Mexican cuisine isn’t just about tacos and tamales. Visit the inland cities of Puebla and Oaxaca to sample different varieties of mole, a sauce made with toasted chilies and chocolate. In the coastal regions, sample local seafood dishes, such as snapper Veracruz style, a meal made with whole snapper prepared with tomatoes, chilies and olives. Head down to Baja California to sample Mexico’s finest wines and visit the home of the fish taco.

This local favorite definitely serves up above average Mexican fare. Mi Mexico is a small restaurant right on A1A, basically across the street from the beach. Inside it’s no-nonsense decor and seriously flavorful south-of-theborder dishes. Your favorite Enchiladas, Burritos and tacos are here, but so are some unexpected dishes. The Shrimp Delite serves up perfectly seasoned shrimp and sauteed onions on a bed of Mexican rice with tortilla chips garnish. The Carnitas are nicely marinated and can be had as a plate with rice, refried beans, tortillas plus plenty of garnishing pico de gallo, or served as tacos on corn or flour tortillas. Delicious! Mi Mexico serves beer and mixed drinks and takes all credit cards. This restaurant is our family’s favorite way to end a day at the beach.

While there are many mexican restaurant outside of Mexico, finding one serving true mexican food is not that common. This restaurant serves an honest truly mexican meal at a very reasonable price. They use a significant amount of queso (cheese) in their preparations that makes them delicious but also very filling. Do expect a very hearthy meal preceded by nachos and salsa (on the house). Excellent value for money. This is a true mexican food experience served by mexicans and well attended by mexicans. We also noted a few local policemen regulars there which is always an indication of high value for money (they know where to eat good food at a reasonable price). We recommend it especially at lunch time.

This was an accidental find! And what a treasure! One of our favorite eateries was packed to the rafters so we headed south on Atlantic to look for another place to eat. We came upon MI Mexico and pulled in. “Why not? Not too busy” (It was only 6pm on a Sunday night) It looks like a little ma and pa eatery from the outside...as the doors swung open, the smell of yummy Mexican spices and food greeted us. The place was already bustling. (Good parking, would have never guessed this as we pulled in as the lot did not look full) Only took minutes for the 4 of us to be seated. Our waitress was sweet, a little slow getting back to us with drinks but...it was busy. And we are rarely in such a hurry that this kind of delay bothers us. Delicious hot salsa and warm crunchy chips hit the table immediately. I ordered enchiladas with beans and rice. Served on hot plates... DELICIOUS! Everything had a delicious flavor...often beans and rice as a side can be bland and non-descript. Not here.... nothing dried out and flat. Rice was fluffy and flavorful. The beans, not dried out...rather moist and covered with melted cheese. The enchiladas were filled with seasoned ground beef (good choices in what you want in your enchilada, taco’s, etc...) and smothered in one of the best red sauces I have had yet since moving from New Mexico.

any say Michoacan is the most beautiful state in all of Mexico. Spread across a magnificent range of volcanoes, its valleys make up some of the nation’s most fertile farmlands; its lakes have provided inspiration and sustenance for millennia. In between, travelers find quaint colonial towns like Patzcuaro and Uruapan, or take up big-city pleasures in Morelia, the beautiful state capital. For natural wonders, Michoacan has established itself as a must see destination for the overwintering sites of the Monarch butterflies, where literally hundreds of millions of these beautiful creatures migrate to a handful of sites withing Michoacan’s protected forests.

ith its rugged, ranchero feel and dramatic desert landscapes, Nuevo Leon has become an insider secret for outdoor adventure, where locals welcome the infrequent visitor with some of Mexico’s very best hospitality. Don’t forget to try the Matacanes, located in Cumbres National Park and accessible only by 4x4 vehicles due to the rugged terrain of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains, perhaps one of the most exciting and well-known high adventure mountaineering excursions in Nuevo Leon. It’s a course that can take 8 hours that can combine trekking, rappelling, cliff jumping, and hiking through extravagant and beautiful waterfalls.

exico offers endless possibilities for adventure: the contrast between the desert and the sea in Baja California; the barren horizons in Chihuahua and Sonora, the lush huasteca shared by San Luis Potosi, Veracruz, Hidalgo, Queretaro and Tamaulipas; the river rapids in Veracruz and Morelos; the clear skies in the State of Mexico and Hidalgo for an adventure in the sky… If you like to climb, choose the rugged horizons in Colima, Puebla and Morelos. If you prefer forests, go to Michoacan and Jalisco. The jungles of Chiapas and Campeche will fascinate you. Come and meet your next challenge!

exico’s coasts attract visitors looking to relax and enjoy a sunny beachfront vacation. Large resorts line many of Mexico’s beaches, offering a laid-back getaway to sand- and surf-seeking travelers. Choose from the calm, sandy beaches of the Mexican Riviera that line the Gulf of Mexico, where you can splash in the surf or partake in some snorkeling or jet-skiing, right from the shore. Or, opt for a trip to Mexico’s western coast and stay in a resort perched atop the rocky cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, where you can enjoy fishing trips and scuba diving in the deep, cool waters.
