EXCELLENCE IN ART SINCE 1963

Dear Friends, This July we are pleased to present three individual showcases featuring the ethereal landscapes of Kathleen Dunphy, the sporting and fly-fishing scenes of Brent Cotton and the vintage cowgirl imagery of S.C. Mummert. All three showcases will be on view at the gallery throughout the month. If you have the opportunity, please stop by the gallery to see these visually stimulating works in person. California based Kathleen Dunphy finds daily inspiration in the plethora of subjects that she finds close to her studio in the Sierra Nevada foothills. Landscapes, water scenes, avian art and the occasional still life or farm animal all find their way to her easel. For Kathleen, no subtlety goes unnoticed, whether it’s the moss on a rock, the reflection of snow in a stream, or the minute color shifts in the bark of an aspen tree. Please join us for our artist reception with Kathleen on Thursday evening July 19.

Kathleen Dunphy, Ode To Summer, oil on canvas, 48 x 60 inches, $22,000

Montana artist Brent Cotton is highly recognized for his atmospheric landscapes and fly-fishing scenes. Over the years, Brent’s approach to painting has evolved from tightly rendered to impressionistic and his work is reminiscent of the tonalist/luminist schools. An avid outdoorsman, Brent can often be found standing in one of the local rivers with a fly rod in his hand or on the oars of his drift boat. Brent was recently honored at the 2018 Prix De West show with the Wilson Hurley Memorial Award for his light infused oil painting titled “Under The Tall Cottonwoods.” The award recognizes exceptional artist merit for a landscape work. S.C. Mummert brings us a new series of paintings inspired by vintage western imagery from the 1925-1955 period, closely mirroring what many consider the Golden Age of Western movies. Mentored under painters Tom Ryan and John Asaro, his newest works are a visually stimulating look in into this fascinating time period, infused with big hats, batwing chaps, bandanas and the general spirit of adventure that prevailed back then. We have several more events coming up later this summer including our 55th anniversary celebration in August and a number of shows scheduled during September's busy Fall Arts Festival week. Check our website for all the latest information. We look forward to having you visit us soon! LANNY GRANT | NEW WORKS

Return of Spring, oil on board, 40 x 60 inches, $36,000

Teewinot Spring, oil on board, 24 x 30 inches, $10,500

Colorado native Lanny Grant developed an early love and respect for the mountains surrounding his family’s ranch near the small Western Slope town of Silt. He spent his early years exploring the beauty of the high country. Fishing trips eventually became sketching opportunities leading to his earliest artistic efforts. A self-taught artist, Grant has evolved his own techniques of translating impressions gathered from nature. A compelling love for the changing moods of the mountains draws him into the high country of Colorado, Wyoming, Montana and Canada to paint some of the most remote areas of the Rockies. Painting on location gives his work a spontaneity and accuracy of color and light resulting in a fresh and accurate portrayal of the scene. THE ARTIST WILL BE FEATURED IN THE JULY ISSUE OF WESTERN ART COLLECTOR
