KILLARNEY Walking Festival is delighted to announce This year’s Charity Walk - a Sun ‘SET’ on Strickeen, on Friday June 10th in aid of Killarney Water Rescue, departing Kate Kearney’s Cottage at 7.30pm. Walkers will be asked to dance an entire Kerry Polka on the summit, just bring a tin whistle and a bodhrán. Members of the talented Kilgobnet Biddies will provide the music and help out with the polka set. O’Sullivan’s Bike Shop have donated two pairs of Columba trekking shoes for the best set dancers! Strickeen is part of MacGillycuddy’s Reeks mountain range, at 440m, it follows a path to the top until an ancient cairn/ritual greets the walker. Killarney Water Rescue provides an important voluntarily service to the area. They hope to purchase a 4x4 vehicle for attending all emergencies.

“WE gather to continue God’s Work” was the theme chosen by the students in Presentation Secondary School Milltown for their great celebration when Bishop Ray Browne blessed and opened the state of the art new school. Since the 1840’s the Presentation Sisters and Brothers have been involved in every aspect of education – coping with growing numbers, lack of accommodation and extensions until finally their dream is realised. Bishop Ray, Sr .Sheila Kelleher Provincial Leader, Kerry Harkin Principal thanked all Principals, staff, religious and lay for their dedication over the years. Bishop Ray paid special tribute to the Presentation Sisters who bought the adjacent site on which is built the New Secondary School, Nagle Rice Community Sports Complex and a fully equipped Children Playground.
