Bathpool Park to become a Local Nature Reserve
The relocation of police operations from Ravenscliffe Road to Kidsgrove Town Hall will Newcastle Borough Council have formally take place at the end of October. declared Bathpool Park to be a Local Nature Work is currently underway preparing the Town Hall for the money saving Reserve to help protect it in the future.
Kidsgrove Police will be based at the Town Hall from the end of October
move. It is expected that running costs could be nearly halved from the present £54,000 a year, and nearly £90,000 saved in necessary repairs needed to the old building which has been under utilised for a number of years. Only around one third of the space at Kidsgrove Police Station is currently used by the police.
The police will base their operations in part of the building to the rear of the Town Hall in the section owned by Newcastle Borough Council with an enquiry desk set up on the lower floor. Residents have been assured that the move won’t see a reduction of officers and won’t affect the level of policing in the area but by reducing costs should help safeguard frontline policing. The move could also help improve services by allowing joint working with other agencies who already have offices in the Town Hall. Opening hours of the enquiry desk will remain the same: Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Closed Weekends and Bank Holidays.

Declaring Bathpool Park a Local Nature Reserve (LNR) secures the long term future of the park for nature conservation and as an informal community education and recreation resource. As an LNR the park will be protected against future developments as there will be “confered upon the site some statutory control in Bathpool Park has been declared a Local Nature Reserve land use planning terms and make it possible to apply by-laws to help manage and protect the site if necessary.” Bathpool Park attracts up to 10,000 visitors each month and in February was the first in the borough to be awarded Country Park status by Natural England after meeting their rigorous criteria, showing that the site delivers all the facilities and services expected of a Country Park. Earlier this year though more than 60 trees were cut down on land next to the park which led to a tree preservation order being imposed and a replanting order issued. Declaring the park a LNR demonstrates the council’s commitment to nature conservation and helps protect it for future generations.
