his editorial was produced by Khalil Kremer as an assignment for ‘Image and Styling’ of postgrad course in Fashion Communication and Culture of Belas Artes, at São Paulo - Brazil.

The price of free was inspired by the novel “The Price of Salt”, written in 1952 by Patricia Highsmith (aka Claire Morgan), and the need of a pseudonym for making through the ignorant/homophobic industry - and public - of the mid-century. Four decades goes by along with many fights - and achievements - for women and gay rights. In ‘92, Highsmith claims the authorship of the book and makes me wonder how much things have changed in this forty years - and keeps changing since the 90’s.

The novel was adapted for the big screen in 2015 (initiated in 1997 by Todd Haynes ) and had Cate Blanchet and Rooney Mara as main characters - Carol and Therese, respectively. The production is a delight, a succession of stunning scenes.

The relationship between Carol and Therese, foundation of the Highsmith’s romance, isn’t addressed explicitly in the editorial - or is it? Via texting, maybe...

The true inspiration comes from the interpersonal relations of this character [Carol] that becomes a metamorphic figure of a strong, deep and sophisticated woman. The introspective personality and desires

are portrayed by subtleties that, in a editorial way, represent the outsourcing of legitimate, passionate and, usually, repressed emotions.
