29,282 sq ft

Value: £1.5m Duration:

20 weeks

Initially, over 18 months, Area Sq and KYOCERA assessed buildings around Reading until Eldon Court was chosen for its prominent location and potential. As the building was vacant for four years and in a poor state of repair, the designer needed great vision to fulfil KYOCERA’s aesthetic, technical and environmental goals. The design also needed to reflect their brand, heritage and cultural shift to more agile working. In conjunction with their professional team, the technical specification was split in to CAT A landlord works and CAT B tenant works, but completed as one project to maximise financial, material and time savings for both parties. Extensive refurbishment works included energy efficient VRV air conditioning, lighting, ceilings, partitioning, decorations and flooring. The ground floor includes a welcoming reception with soft seating, strong branding and a tranquil courtyard. Clients and partners enjoy a training suite, meeting rooms and a showroom facility demonstrating KYOCERA’s latest technologies. Upper floors focus on staff wellbeing with collaborative zones, high back sofas, café area, informal working points, showers and a games room. Sustainability was high on the agenda and Ska Rating Gold was gained by maximising natural and energy efficient lighting, air conditioning, diverting 100% waste from landfill, conserving resources and maximising staff wellbeing. Sketch recommended adaptable and flexible furniture which was robust and durable, including Techo’s Alfa bench desking, Sidiz seating and Orangebox seating. Simon Essery, Technology & Infrastructure Manager at KYOCERA says: “We are very happy with the final result as it reflects KYOCERA’s brand values and our company culture well. It’s an open and welcoming environment.”
