Architecture and building planning

The main task of this project was to design 7 homes on a slope in the suburban area of Aachen, Lousberg. The surrounding is characterized by its calm and natural atmosphere. The seven houses are located in the outskirts of the town. The primary idea of the design was to create a society friendly zone for families and seniors. Therefore, the two social groups were separated in two different rows, but have a common space between them to achieve not an entrance area but rather a communal venue. In order to benefit the most from natural day lighting, the houses were situated in a way that allows sunlight to reach deep in the houses both when the sun is steep and flat. Based on the tranquil atmosphere and the intention to gain homogeneity, wood planks were chosen for facades and terraces.



Architecture and construction Located in the industrial area of Aachen (German city) the sports_hub is an energy self-sufficient sports and event hall. The main assignment of this project was to design a hall that fits in the context of the surrounding region and to plan the building to a certain degree of detail. The concept of the design was to create a building that shows a noticeable front and back. In order to achieve that, the building was given an arcuate shape. Because of the great importance of the contractual structure, a steel post bolt facade was chosen for the building envelope to make it more visible from the outside. There are three different zones inside: the active zone, the event hall and the delivery zone. All three can be connected and separated using textile partitions. The audience find their place on the galleries above the dressing rooms and the toilets. One of the main elements of the building was the roof. Using three different panels (glazed panel, solar panel, insulated steel panel) the roof was flexible to be adjusted as wanted.



City planning and Landscaping The city planning and landscaping project discusses a bigger architectural problem. Here we were given a very heterogenious surrounding around the Bendplatz, where we had to design a residential area. Based on the analysis we concluded that the design had to include a residential and recreational area for students of the future ''Campus West'' on the south side. Further the ''Aachen West'' area is characterised by its three main axes: the residential axis, the culture axis and the uni axis. The block buildings are unobtrusive to the surrounding. From the inside an interesting space is created through the polygonal shape of the buildings. The buildings edges direct the view from the stand points to the important elements. That makes the polygonality indispensable. Every thematic chain (main axis) is integrated in the Bendplatz. Therefore, the Bendplatz now serves as the heart of this zone.



Bachelor project The concept of the renovation and reuse of the old barn in southern Norway is to unite the surrounding with the interior. The barn is located on a mountanious landscape. To create the unity between the outside and the inside the house was divided into two areas: The living-, dining and kitchenspace and the bedrooms and WC. The living space has a stoned wall, which creates the connection to the outside. The sleeping area has wooden planks on the walls and the ground. The childrens bedroom can be seperated through a sliding wall unit, that enlarges the room or makes it smaller, when not in use. To intensify the link between the outside and inside the south facade can be completely opened. The wooden panels of the south facade can rotate on the outside axis of each one of them and therefore have an effect on the appearance of the building from the inside and outide.


