Buon Anniversario!
When Alfredo Capitanini opened the Italian Village 85 years ago, the martinis cost just 43 cents (today, a martini at ITALIAN VILLAGE RESTAURANTS costs $8.50). The oldest Italian spot in Chicago, Italian Village has become three restaurants: LA CANTINA ITALIAN CHOPHOUSE, featuring steak and seafood; THE VILLAGE, with traditional Northern Italian cuisine; and VIVERE, which features more contemporary Italian flavors. In its 85 years, Italian Village has been owned and operated by three generations of the Capitanini family and served 13 Chicago mayors. To celebrate its Sep. 20 anniversary, from Sep. 17 to 21, enjoy a special lunchtime menu at the Village featuring some of “Alfredo’s favorites,” which were on the original 1927 menu—including Chicken Breast Pizzaiola, grilled chicken in tomato sauce, served with mostaccioli pasta, and Sausage Parmagiana.
