Education NINE students at Bristol’s Badminton School have made a royal start to the academic year by winning awards in the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition. This is particularly exciting as the girls’ success in the top international creative writing contest comes in the week that the Queen becomes Britain’s longest reigning-monarch. Their essays, on the theme of “A Young Commonwealth”, were chosen from contributions from 13,000 young people in 49 countries. Entrants were invited to share their hopes and concerns for the future, and wrote about issues such as poverty, sustainable development, gender inequality, child labour and universal education. Classmate Alexandra also won one of 19 UK senior bronze awards. In the Under 14s class, Year 8
