Hearthstone Arena Guide Revealed! On Wednesday, we looked at three principles espoused by Blizzard developers and how they could be useful for other game developers. Today, we'll continue with some stated and unstated design practices in Blizzard games, taking our cue from Gamasutra's recent interview with Kevin Martens and Julian Love from the Diablo III team. It's good to go beyond the sales numbers or price cuts or any of the ancillary outcomes of the games business to look at something more important: what is it that makes some games so much better than others. World of Warcraft is the same way: there's plenty to do in the game, but the basics are idiot-proof. This philosophy is not going to shock anyone with its originality, but it bears repeating: the more players you invite into your game experience, the more will be able to enjoy it. Not having worked with Blizzard, I don't know if they do this as well as they used to, but it's a critical component of company culture to encourage. Without naming names, I used to work at a large publisher. It wasn't like every game we made was great, but feedback could move across channels and come from anywhere. QA people were encouraged to criticize products and share ideas, and eventually the QA guys would become assistant producers or product managers and move up from there. They had started where they heard directly from customers (QA guys worked on customer support as well), and they carried that forward into their careers and when the company got so large and successful that people at the bottom couldn't contribute anymore, the company started to go downhill This year's Blizzcon had plenty of exciting news and events going on, including tons of new information on their new free to play game, Hearthstone. For those that do not already know, Heroes of the Storm is Blizzard Entertainment's upcoming free to play MOBA (Multiplayer online battle arena) game. And this hearthstone arena guide is the best on the market currently. It will feature many of the heroes and villains you already know from other Blizzard titles, both past and present. Whether you are a fan of MOBA games already or completely new to the genre, Heroes of the Storm has a lot to offer, and in this article, I will give you a quick overview of the game and all its features. There are a few good reasons for the subscriber loss this quarter, probably the most important ones are the release of Diablo III pulling subscribers away, and the in-between expansion lull With 10 million copies of Diablo III sold, and with only 12 million of them with the annual pass, it's no surprise that a good amount of people would take a break from WoW to go play Diablo III. There has also been a lack of content being added to World of Warcraft lately, as a result of the lull between Cataclysm and WoW's next expansion, Mists of Pandaria. Chances are quite a few people are simply just getting bored and have decided to take a break until the next expansion is released or there's more content added. It's also worth mentioning that many of the subscribers that were lost were located in the East, in countries such as China and South Korea. Whether or not this has anything to do with the subscriber loss is up for debate. Although there are several reasons for this current loss, it's important to remember that World of Warcraft has been steadily losing subscribers for the past year, and this latest subscriber loss could just be par for the course.
