Welcome! Welcome to the Kernock Park Plants 2018 Autumn ideas book! In this book you will find over 50 fantastic top performing plants and ideas designed to see you through the late summer, into autumn and behond to keep your garden looking great though the darker months! Acorus gramineus ‘Ogon’ The versatility of the grasses allow them to be placed in nearly any situation, from being in a container, basket, or raised bed, to being in the border or rockery. This particular variety has golden yellow, cream and green leaves to make a really strong show all year round!

Ajuga ‘Black Scallop’ (P)

This group of attractive, creeping plants are great for filling a large area. They will smother out weeds while adding brilliant foliage, colour and blooms. Ajuga reptans ‘Burgundy Glow’; A low growing mound of slow-spreading, tri-coloured leaves with splashes of green, cream and pink. Spikes of deep-blue flowers appear in spring. Excellent autumn/winter interest when the leaves turn a deep bronze and younger growth is rose pink!

Aster Beautiful, vibrant colours that last until late October. They will brighten up the autumn garden when little else is blooming. Latin for ‘star’, they really do shine brightly! Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Rose Crystal’ (VR) Strong rose purple blooms with a fine, almost filament looking properties to the petals.

Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Rose Quartz’ (VR) Wonderful baby pink blooms with an outstanding yellow heart on fantastic upright foliage.

Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Sapphire’ (P) This is the best dumosus form that we have seen, with its blue daisy flowers from Summer through Autumn on dense, fresh green foliage.

Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Aqua Compact’ (VR) Brilliant turquoise blue flowers with sunshine yellow centres over compact green foliage.

Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Granat’ (VR) Beautiful lavender jade blooms with sulphur yellow centres. Superb in September!

Aster Autumn Jewels ‘Purple Diamond’ (VR) A compact habit and bright purple flowers with double rows of petals.

Arabis ferdinandi-coburgii ‘Old Gold’ Sprays of small white flowers over a lively tapestry of golden, green, variegated foliage. Collected from Macedonia at the beginning of the 20th century. Ideal for ground cover in rock gardens, bed edges, gravel beds and all containers with Sedums and other alpines.

Bergenia ‘Autumn Magic’ The best Bergenia for autumn flower colour. Although predominantly spring flowering, ‘Autumn Magic’ will re-bloom sporadically during summer and autumn.It has large, glossy green leaves like elephant’s ears and bright pink flowers.

Calocephalus ‘Silver Sand’ This is an improvement on previous forms of Calocephalus - more compact, bushy form. A brilliant foil for any combination. Can be used for combination plantings or is excellent in raised beds.

Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’ Carex: A range of Carex grasses, all variable in habit, but ideal for use in a variety of situations - raised bed, borders and containers for spring, summer and autumn.

Carex comans ‘Red’

A New Zealand sedge forming dense tufts of narrow thread-like bronze leaves. Perfect for any container, basket, bed/ border, rasied bed or rockery.

Ceratostigma plumbaginoides

This little fella is a hardy patio plant with green-bronze foliage and blue flowers. Can be kept in a container all year round, either on the patio, or in the conservatory.

Erysimum linifolium ‘Variegatum’ A hardy perennial with wonderful variegated cream and green foliage with light mauve flowers on fairly long spikes. This little wonder is perfect for any container, but is also right at home in any bank, bed or border!

Euphorbia ‘Efanthia’ (P) Small, green leaves with purple tinges on the edges and red undersides. Yellow balls of flower through summer and into autumn.

Euphorbia ‘Kalipso’ (VR) A wonderful rounded, bushy and compact form with golden yellow flowers on buff green foliage.

Heuchera ‘Key Lime Pie’ (P)

A wonderful richly coloured Heuchera with bold tones of maroon and blackberry with ebony veins. Flowers are tiny, dark coral coloured bells.

Forms a mound of luxurious foliage with a fluted edge that is reminiscent of the colours of a blackcurrant and blueberry smoothie. Short sprays of purple-pink flowers appear in summer.

Year round colour in a raspberry to blackberry shade. Big, bold habit. A blend of heat loving H. villosa and cold tolerance of H. americana.

Wonderful lime-green foliage which contrasts beautifully against dark leaved Heuchera.

Heuchera ‘Licorice’ (P)

Slightly ruffled, glossy, dark burgundy foliage which create impressive clumps in spring and summer.

Miniature caramel leaves produce ever blooming, creamy blonde flowers, creating a vivid display with up to 20 flower spikes at a time.

A foam of chartreuse coloured flowers in spring, summer and autumn which are held aloft over petite iridescent limey green foliage.

A superior marmalade-orange Heuchera, far stronger than early forms.

Rich, very dark, chocolate coloured leaves and light pink flowers all year round. It truly is a ‘cute’ miniature version.

Heuchera Little Cutie ‘Sugar Berry’ (P)

A variety with maroon leaves and an attractive silver veil giving them their ‘frosted’ look. Dark burgundy veins are strong in spring, with a hint of violet throughout the year.

Miniature peppermint-green leaves, veiled in silver/white with pink flowers throughout the year. The older flowers darken to a stronger pink and are long lasting.

Berry coloured leaves with very dark violet veins and a silvery veil. Soft pink flowers float above the foliage on dark stems. It’s very nicely compact, very showy, and very unique.

Heuchera ‘Sugar Frosting’ (P)

Jet black foliage with scalloped, ruffled edges and rosy purple undersides. Topped with white flowers with pink calyxes.

Frosted metallic markings on matt burgundy leaves. A superb tight habit. Creamy flower spikes appear in spring.

Burnt orange leaves with smoked paprika hues and veining that varies in colour throughout the seasons. Flowers appear in Spring. This is a wonderful plant to see you through Autumn.

Heuchera Little Cutie ‘Sweet Tart’ (P) A tight mound of zingy lime-coloured leaves with bi-coloured flowers of cerise and hot pink held above dark stems. Very long flowering and brilliant in the pot.

Lonicera A small, dense, evergreen shrub with small tubular fragrant flowers that are followed by berries. Adds a sunshine glow to the autumn and winter garden.

A stunning golden-green foliage sub-shrub which will grow progressively larger over the years.

Lemon Beauty’ is a dense, evergreen shrub with tiny, ovate, green leaves that have a golden edge. In spring it bears tiny cream flowers and in autumn pale-violet berries are sparsely produced.

Marjoram ‘Gold Tipped’ Marjoram: A perennial herb, native to Europe and Middle East used in many meat and Italian dishes. August - September. Enjoys being in pots and gardens for easy reach to make the most of the textures, fragrance and flavours.

This variety is a very attractive Marjoram with bright yellow-gold splashes on the tips of the leaves, looking its best in late spring.

Physalis franchetii ‘Gigantea’ Also known as Chinese Lanterns, this herbaceous perennial has attractive bright orange lantern shaped seed heads that appear in autumn. Ideal plant for a container display, great end of year interest and goes well with Heucheras.

Sage Sage: The officinalis, or rutilans Sage (Salvia) are herb varieties, often used when cooking poultry, meat, cheeses, pickles and stuffings and salads, but many of them are superb ornamental varieties in their own right.

Schizostylis coccinea varieties This is an easy to grow perennial which produces sword-like leaves and multitudes of flowers in September and October. The hues of Pink and Red make them a welcome addition to the late cottage border. They look particularly striking when mixed with ornamental grasses.
