Select a new bank, establish accounts and safe deposit box and apply for new bankcards. Obtain veterinary records and licenses, get new tags if needed and arrange for pets' transportation. Arrange for help watching children on moving day. Cancel deliveries and services such as newspaper, trash collection, and lawn mowing as of moving day. Defrost freezer. Get rid of perishable food you won't eat before moving. Obtain traveler's checks for trip expenses and payment to movers. Make a first night box. Label it prominently and include towels, sheets, tissues, paper towels, plastic utensils, paper plates and cups, hammer, can opener, etc. on Moving daY: Carry enough cash or traveler's checks to cover the cost of moving services and expenses until you make banking connections in your new location. Complete any changes of address you may have postponed. Get a local map and learn your way around. File your closing papers where you can get to them easily at tax time.
