siRe: Red sss GRANite 74h

What a way to start out the 2022 edition of the Pride of the Prairies Female Sale. Last spring we had invested in a semen package on the up and coming SSS Granite bull that we had heard lots of positive feedback on from many respected breeders and friends. To say that our expectations have been met in his first calf crop would be an absolute understatement. He has left us a group of eye appealing and structurally correct calves that have more calving ease that we anticipated. Queen 112k is our selection to be an ambassador for his first calf crop. She comes from a long line of highly productive mama cows with the ability to raise the good ones. Her dam Queen 26E has already produced three top end bulls for our annual bull sale with one going to the good folks at Ravenbrook Angus in Manitoba and the other two working in the top end commercial herds of TBk and Noll. Queen will be show ready as she was exhibited at both the Young Ranchman’s in Swift Current and Canadian Western Agribition in Regina. Don’t miss this opportunity to acquire some of the freshest Red Angus genetics available this year.

I could write chapter upon chapter about the Rosa cow family and good things that they have done for our herd in the time that we have owned them. This family originated from the kuntz dispersal and are a big reason we secured a second package from Clint when he decided to sell his herd. I believe that there are certain cows that deserve to be in each and every pedigree within a herd and for me this is toss up between Rosa 34W and her daughter Rosa 3A, so in this case I have purposefully included them both! Our goal is to incorpo rate these cows into each and every pedigree of our cow herd with time. The Rosa’s flat-out work! The young dam of this heifer has been a head turner of everyone who has seen her. She is moderate in her design but super fronted and highly maternal. She will do many good things in her future. Take this Rosa heifer home and build a tribe of your own daughters or take the time to ready her for the summer show road and have some fun she easily fits either of those programs. When building our sale offering this sum mer I wanted to ensure that we had a proper representation of our current and future herd sires. I noticed that I had missed selecting a Resource 50G heifer calf so I headed out to the pasture and kept coming back to this 71k heifer. She has a bit more frame and dimen sion to her yet maintains a feminine appear ance. When I pulled up her pedigree it all makes sense, the Staunch 64Y daughters all have an elegance about them and make jaw dropping cows when they mature. The Ms Gravity cow family has proven themselves to be herd builders and are consistent in their production. Last fall the mature Ms Gravity females were popular through our sale and found homes in many leading purebred herds and for a good reason! The 161F cow is one of my absolute favourite young cows and will hold a position in our donor stable in the fu ture. Here is an opportunity to acquire some of the hottest Red Angus genetics in today’s industry.

LOT

The Serebl cow family name is synonymous with quality. Our good friend and previous sale partner Phil Birnie from Wraz has built a solid foundation for his program around this cow family. We wish him all the best with his future endeavours. Serebl 155k may be the youngest female of our offering but she won’t be one to be missed. She has a cool cut to her design with a bold well sprung rib cage and softness to her midsection. She could be a contender in the junior yearling division next year! The dam of this youngster is a deep dark red daughter of the high selling Allison Deft 15E bull. His daughters are quietly proving themselves as big time cows. The maternal grand dam of this heifer raised a Red Round Up quality heifer calf on her first attempt that sold to Brylor. The quality runs deep in this heifer’s heritage. Here is a calf that has her best days ahead of her, we are excited to see who has the vision to take her to new heights.

The Jet Stream cows have become known for their calving ease and maternal ability, Jet Stream 8k is no different! Her young dam has done an outstanding job dur ing her first attempt at motherhood. All of the young Understudy cows express the impeccable udder quality that the Max line of cattle are known to have. The Fifth Sense sire has the unique ability of combining calving ease along with early growth and added eye appeal. Just recently a Fifth Sense son was awarded the Reserve Champion Bull honors at Farmfair in Ed monton. This is a bloodline that we believe has a lot to offer the overall beef industry and we have plans to move forward with it in our breeding program.

The Callie family is relatively new to our breeding program and one we should be guarding closer until we have a firm foundation of them established. However we are committed to putting our best foot forward and offering a top selection of our bred heifers every year. Callie is a striking individual no matter what direction you view her from. She is deep dark red with a clean cut front end that ties in high and proud into a solid topline. If we were so inclined she is the type that could have successfully wore a show halter this summer and collected a bit of hardware along the way. She is the kind that will transition into motherhood extremely well as she is laying down a nice table and is backed by production-oriented mama cows. This will be the first group of Resource 50G daughters that will be calving and we are beyond happy with how they are developing. He is a sire that we plan to utilize heavily in our program the next few years. The AI service to the exclusive Big Shot 703G bull should only add excitement to the genetic equa tion. Truly a genetic gem in the making.

Here is the 1st of the Boss 313F daughters that we will be offering for sale. They are all cut from the same mold; soft made, dark red, easy fleshing and loaded with maternal goodness. Rosa 138J has a bit more extension in her front end and carries herself proudly while on the move. Her dam sold last fall to the good folks at Z Bar Angus and previously raised a son that we sold to Wingello Cattle Co. through our Annual Online Bull Sale. Her AI service to the wildly popular “purple” son of Range Boss that we retained a semen interest on will surely add value to this future brood matron. This fall during the 50th Red Round Up the first Red Boss 31H daughter to be sold at public auc tion fetched $15,000.

This heifer has brood cow stamped all over her. She is the kind that you take home and let become a cornerstone of your breeding herd. Soft made and easy keeping is her kind!! Her dam Bayberry 99A has daughters working at Triple H Cattle Co and Dwajo Angus, she herself moved to the good folks, Daniel & Penny Rooke just west of Brandon along the TransCanada Highway. If you ever have the chance, I would encourage you to stop in for a tour of their program as it has really come into itself the last couple of years. Another solid Queen cow family member. If you study, her pedigree closely you will notice that Queen 34F is a full sister to the dam of the Lot 101 heifer calf in this sale offering. The Deft females are turning into moderate made mama cows with tidy udders and the ability to produce calves beyond our expectations. Queen 30J is stout made with extra spring of rib yet maintaining a feminine front end. We predict that she will make a long-lasting ranch cow for her new owners. Our vet calls her safe to the Red Six Mile Hard Wire 808G exposure, we unfortunately lost this calving ease prodigy recently making his service very limited.

Quite regularly we get caught up in the conversation about mature cow size. How big is big enough and how moderate is too moderate. What we have determined is that body TYPE is more important than size.

The Jet Stream cow family originated from the extremely solid Brookmore breeding establishment in Manitoba where Jack was known to breed some of the deepest most wedge shaped Angus females available. While he wasn’t known for his Red Angus program, he always kept a few that were his type and kind and we lucked out enough to secure one for ourselves. The Jet Stream females develop into pear shaped easy keeping cows.

Jet Stream 65J may never develop to be the biggest cow in your herd but she will be one that will continue to grab your attention in the future. Our vet calls her safe to the exposure bull RREDS Township J191 a bull that we imported this spring from South Dakota based upon the strength of his donor dam. The Primrose cow family has wrote chapters in Angus history books and continues to be one of the most sought after bloodlines today. Excitement awaits!!

When you can close your eyes and envision each and every single cow in a young female’s pedigree you know that you are onto something. kuruba 3J is the product of years of maternal selection. With proven donor cows like Rosa 3A, Bayberry 704T and Aster 663S stacked in her tabulation you are well positioned to have a future donor of your own. We are committed to offering females from the heart of our program and kuruba 3J packages a bit of the soul along with her. As an individual she is long bodied with a beautiful sweep to her rib cage and attached clean in her front end. This kind are difficult to construct and even more dif ficult to offer for sale. To add to her genetic stack, we have mated her to the exclusive SSS Big Shot for an exciting 2023 calf. We usually run a very tight defense on these Aster females and don’t release very many of them from our breeding program. Aster 4J combines two of our absolute favourite cow families the Aster’s and Rosa’s. We attended Jim kings dispersal sale with the goal of put ting together a package of Aster females and landed two full sisters, 763T and 830U. They both turned out to be solid investments and have left us a living legacy within our herd. This heifers dam 55G is a rising star and has continued to impress us with her development. Resource 137E continues to gain popularity with Red Angus breeders south of the border and for very good reasons. The Resource daughters are clean made and fun to develop as show heifers yet when put into production that is where the real magic happens. Aster 4J is royally bred and the type of female where the mating options are endless. We elected to mate her to the exciting outcross Red Boss 31H sire who is gaining in popularity and growing an early group of fans. A fresh genetic combo coming your direction in 2023.

We weren’t really in search of another cow family but Midnight 905W kept catching my eye while sorting through the cattle at the Chickadee dispersal. Buy them when you find them was some sage advice that was shared with us early on during our An gus career. The Midnight family has now become red hided and maintains the original function of being easy keeping, open ribbed and highly maternal. The Resource 50G daughters all look to be the type we enjoy raising and we are excited about their future. Midnight 45J carries the only service to sell in Canada during the fall of 2022 by the $70,000 USD valued Guidance 9117. His progeny have been making waves this sale season in the US. Even a blind squirrel finds the odd nut”, this is a saying that a friend regularly uses to define his luck. This is how we feel about the day we added the Rosette cow family from the matejka’s during red round up a few years back. rosette 59d has been a solid producer for us over the years and her daughters are proving their true value with time. This fall at red round up the rosette family was on fire, with rosette 50J aka Betty being awarded the reserve Jr champion Female honours during the Futurity show and another rosette heifer calf bringing $19,000 for the good folks at matejka Farms. cow families breed on and rosette 11J is positioned to become a profitable piece of the puzzle. With an early aI service to sss Big shot rosette 11J may just knock it out of the park on her first try!

The Virginia family is one of the largest groups of cows currently in our herd. For good reason they are all sound, unassuming cows that flawlessly go about their business raising a top end calf year in and year out. With donor quality cows like Envious 147X, Padell 25X and Ruby 10T in her pedigree stack Virginia has mater nal merit locked into her DNA. The dam of this moderate made beauty now resides near Neepawa, MB at the young and enthusiastic Camo Cattle Co. When you start to imagine what the resulting calf by the fresh RREDS Township J191 will look like you can’t help but get flush with excitement. Proven cow families stacked generations deep, this is the kind to build from!

There must have been an irregular lunar cycle or something when we were putting together this year’s sale offering. As previously stated, we haven’t released very many of the Aster females from our breeding program. They are females that are built to last the test of time. In fact, the Aster 24Y cow is still in production within our program and has placed another heifer into the replacement pen this fall. The Ferdinand 839F bull has been stamping his progeny with an open and high-capacity rib design. Ferdinand is line bred to the highly maternal Redman 1T and we cannot wait to get his first daughters into production. Previously this fall his first daughter to be offered at auction sold for $10,000 through Red Round Up to Sam and Lauren Hunt of Bar H Ranch in Idaho. Aster carries the exclusive AI service to SSS Big Shot.

Rosa 13J is an interesting individual on paper and in the flesh. Her young Resource 137E dam is in fact a maternal sister to our highly decorated and proven Rosa 3A. Her sire was sourced from Matejka Farms as an AI sire after we realized the maternal power that the daughter, we had previously purchased from them possessed. Review the footnotes on Lot 114 for that story. Our high selling bull this spring to Mitchell Cattle Co. from Barriere, BC. was a paternal sibling to Rosa 13J. Her AI mating to Staunch 61D will lock down the maternal merit of the Rosa cow family. We were once told if you were going to experiment with line breeding to follow the cow family. It seems to be working, as proven in Lot 102.

Virginia is another of these dark red Boss 313F daughters. She has a larger outline than some of the other heifers in the offering. Her dam was a feature in our 2021 production sale to Z Bar Angus and they report that she has raised a stellar bull calf this year. The Mission Statement cows are true work horses and have the ability to raise cowboy friendly herd bulls. This is what we expect from Virginia 54J. Her AI service to the proven Staunch 61D will prove to be profit oriented.

Rounding out our 2022 offering we have a younger deep cherry red daughter of the maternal Boss 313F. We wish we had more of these daughters to put into produc tion as we unfortunately lost him too early in his breeding career. Tinsel comes from the same cow family as Lot 116, her dam moved out west in a package of heifer calves sourced from our good friends at WCF Red Angus in Ontario. The AI service to Red Boss 31H who is a full sibling to the record selling bred heifer Freyja 36H at Red Round Up for $40,000 will compliment this heifer near perfectly.
