Phone Michelle Conway on 083 4074256 By appointment only Congratulations to team VLMM, Vincent Wiggins, Lisa Cremin, Maire O Sullivan & Michelle Sweeney, who completed their first marathon in April.. One more step along the road to normality! Until 7.30pm on March 10th 2020, Kenmare boasted an active, enthusiastic unit of around 50 Irish Girl Guides. Our Ladybirds (aged 5 - 7) enjoyed their meetings and took a 40th birthday trip to Fota Wildlife Park. Our Brownies (aged 7-10) completed badges and had regional fun days. Our Guides and Senior Branch (aged 10+) enjoyed Squelch (the name says it all!) numerous camps in Ireland and overseas and many girls completed the highest Guide Gold award. And then Covid hit. Determined to keep going, we set challenges online and, supported by our National organisation the Irish Girl Guide association, we stayed together as a unit. Sadly, by Christmas 2020, we decided to hibernate the unit until we could resume face to face meetings. But now we are back! As restrictions ease throughout the country, we aim to take advantage of the summer evenings with a range of Covid compliant outdoor Guide activities. Presently, due to restrictions on numbers, we are offering only Brownie and Guide sessions, but hope in January to develop Ladybirds and Senior Branch. If you are interested in joining us or would like a place on our waiting list, email suzannetillgray@gmail.com

Black Valley National School has applied to become a Gaelscoil. We won't know the outcome of our application until the end of the holidays. However, we would like to know if there are parents who would be interested in enroling in a Gaelscoil in 2021 or 2022. We would be the nearest Gaelscoil to both the Kenmare and Beaufort areas. This would open the possibility of a school bus. If you are interested or have any questions please e-mail gapofdunloens@gmail.com

We have more new products this month in The Pantry. The weather has improved and with that comes the need for sun lotions and after sun treatments to keep the aggressive Irish sun from burning the skin. We are stocking sun lotions in all factors from 15 to 50 SPF for sensitive skin and for use on infants and children. There are no harmful chemicals that will affect the skin or ocean life while swimming.

Tá iarratas déanta ag Scoil Náisiúnta an Chuimin Dhuibh le bheith ina gaelscoil. Ní bheidh a fhios againn toradh ár n-iarratas go dtí deireadh na laethanta saoire. Mar sin féin, ba mhaith linn a fháil amach an bhfuil tuismitheoirí ann a mbeadh suim acu clárú i nGaelscoil i 2021 nó 2022. Bheimis an Gaelscoil is gaire do cheantair an Neidín agus Lios an Phúca. D’fhágfadh sé sin an fhéidearthacht go mbeadh bus scoile ann. Má tá suim agat nó má tá aon cheist agat seol ríomh-phost chuig gapofdunloens@gmail.com

Kenmare & District Garden Club In loving memory of MAURA MURPHY 28 November 1935 – 14 January 2021

The family of the late Maura Murphy, Killowen, Kenmare, would like to express their deepest thanks to the community of Kenmare for their enormous support, expressions of kindness, gifts of food, flowers and toall who showed us sympathy on our recent sad bereavement. Our thanks to all who sent their condolences, participated in the funeral by standing along the route, outside the church and at the graveyard. To the teachers who organised and stood in the INTO/Teachers guard of honour, thank you so much. You made it truly memorable for us. Thank you to Father Tom Crean for all his assistance and care during Mom’s illness and after her death.

Normally over the summer months there is no report submitted from the Garden Club as this is the time when members enjoy our annual trip further afield in Ireland or occasionally to the U.K. or shorter trips on the island of Ireland. However, with no such trips possible at the moment and as this has been definitely a very different year and a half, it is vital to keep up our contacts and our enthusiasm going. So it was with great appreciation that the club were invited at the end of May to see the excellent achievements of our chairperson Neill Cahill and Aly Peh at the Watermargin – a unique property surrounded on three sides by downhill flows of water. Their immaculate display of hostas was both a source of wonder and envy! On a happy note, congratulations are due to two of our members, Jamie and Katherine, proprietors of Derreen café, on their recent marriage. The photo appeared in the May issue. June brings the possibility of long hot days in the sunshine enjoying the perfume of roses and fragrant flowering shrubs and enjoying the fruits of our labours in the vegetable patch and fruit cage…hopefully this is now a reality as at the time of writing it is grey skies and midges!

Thanks also to Johnny, Maureen & Brian Finnegan for their respect, kindness and professionalism. A special word of thanks to Mom’s carers and the medical staff of Kenmare Community Hospital who treated Mom with such dignity and compassion in her final weeks. To those who helped in many different ways, your contribution made our loss more bearable. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude. The Holy Sacrifice of Mass will be offered for your intentions. Tahilla national school. We would like to wish our three 6th class students, Gearóid, Eibhlin and Marissa the best of luck on the beginning of a new and exciting journey to post-primary school. They are graduating from Tahilla CNS with many exciting memories and adventures with their friends and teachers over the years. Each of them have grown into creative, caring and talented young adults. To prepare them for the transition from primary school to secondary the students took part in an online workshop run by Evan Costigan of Brain Box. The programme equips 6th class pupils with the knowledge and skills to make the social and emotional transition as smooth as it can possibly be. Eibhlin, Marissa and Gearóif have made huge contributions to the school community over the years and will be sorely missed by everyone. We have no doubt that they will continue to flourish in secondary school. As technology becomes more and more prominent in our lives it's so important to teach the importance of internet safety to our children. The students at Tahilla CNS took part in an online workshop on Internet Safety provided by Barnardos. It taught the children how to be safe and resilient online. Luckily the pupils have access to a number Ipads and laptops in our school and have been putting their internet safety skill to use.

The children of Tahilla Community National school were spotted every day on the beach at White Strand during the first week of June, as they took part in Water Safety Ireland’s PAWS (Primary Aquatics Water Safety) programme. In school lessons were taught in the morning outlining the essential life saving guidelines that every child needs to know, in the afternoon, the children took part in swimming lessons in the sea at White Strand. Despite the changing weather great fun was had by all and after swimming the children warmed up with some delicious hot-chocolate.

Reseeding in Ireland is on the increase and the practice of reseeding is being accepted as one of the best paying investments on grassland farms. Grazed grass has been long heralded as the most cost effective feed for cows and drystock, while grass silage is also the cheapest winter feed produced on farm. Grass mixtures have been put together based primarily on yield with little or no emphasis on how the chosen varieties will be utilized by the animal. One of the most important limiting factors to production is the voluntary dry matter intake of the cow. Increasing the quality, digestibility and energy content of the daily dry matter intake is the most efficient way to increase production. When increasing the quality of any feed it is important this is done in a balanced way, for example increasing the protein content of a feed will not give the desired results without also increasing the energy content. Sinclair McGill are the first to formulate grass seed mixtures with the animal’s dietary requirement and agronomic performance of varieties in mind. When a Sinclair McGill mixture has been formulated using this criteria it is accredited with the LGAN (Limagrain animal nutrition) symbol denoting a superior nutritional value whilst maintaining excellent quality and yields. The basis for compiling these mixtures is from an extensive database of variety trial results from across Europe. With 3 of the current range of Sinclair McGill mixtures in Ireland having LGAN accredited status our aim is to have a full range of mixtures meeting the strict LGAN criteria. LGAN this allows us to design mixtures with greater precision to application. In on farm trials LGAN grass mixtures were producing 1.4 litres of milk per cow per day over the existing swards. Sinclair McGill traditionally offers unrivalled higher voluntary standards of germination and seed purity along with Headstart gold seed dressing, ensuring maximum germination and establishment. Now with the added benefit of LGAN accredited mixtures Sinclair McGill must be the no.1 choice when reseeding.

Cllr Patrick

Connor -Scarteen

Mayor of Kerry reports... 5 Main Street, Kenmare, Co. Kerry. 087 290 4325 pconnorscarteen@gmail.com

Community Response Forum Awards Night: On Thursday 17th June i hosted a virtual appreciating night for the Community Response Forum. “Following the challenging year this county has faced, we celebrate and honour those involved in the Community Response Forum, demonstrating the spirit of Volunteerism and who helped individuals and communities in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.” The work carried out by groups, under the auspices of the Community Response Forum, was vital to ensuring that those who were in need around the county of Kerry were responded to. As a county, and a country, we are slowly moving towards the reopening of society, and wish to give thanks to those who have reached out to their community and assisted those who needed it. While the Awards Night is targeted at recognising the work of the voluntary and community groups who formed part of the Community Response Forum during the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is recognised that the State Organisations and Agencies have also played a significant role. Their role will be recognised during the event as well, with various presenters discussing their contribution to the County during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This includes recognising the key frontline emergency sectors (HSE, Gardaí, Frontline Medical Staff) for their efforts during the Pandemic.

Counselling, Psychotherapy, Healing & Energy Work

Irish Water- Kenmare Wastewater treatment plant: I arranged for the Head of Asset Management of Irish Water to address Kerry County Council members on issues in Kerry, of which there are many. In particular I will be questioning the delay in relation to the extension of the wastewater treatment plant in Kenmare and demanding that it be completed earlier than 2024. I will also be questioning the officer in relation to reported waste discharges in Sneem. Footpaths, Kenmare: Kerry County Council please allocate funding towards the repair of footpaths and improvements to infrastructure in Dromneavane Estate, Kenmare so as to improve safety and accessibility. Kerry County Council please extend the footpath near Ard Mullen on the Sneem Road, Gortamullen. I also raised the issue of an extension of the footpath in Killowen and am working on Kilmurry amongst which was recently allocated funding. Monthly Motions: 1.That KCC requests that phase 2 of the Kenmare relief road progresses as soon as possible. 2. Please request that an update is given in relation to the Macroom bypass, what works remain to be completed and the timelines. Pandemic- Community Response Forum: I sit on the forum which coordinates the response in the community in Kerry. If anyone has any suggestions on how we can improve it please let me know. Community Response Forum- helpline: Freephone line: 1800807009. Available from 8am-8pm, 7 days a week. Feel free to contact me at any time day or night if I can assist in any way. Retirement of Cllr Michael Gleeson: Although Cllr Michael Gleeson represented the Killarney area, he was a good friend to the Kenmare area. I wish him and his wife Kathleen all the best on his retirement after 40 years as a public representative. Michael also excelled on the football field playing for his club Spa and Kerry. Michael represented the Kerry Independent Alliance and was always a man of integrity and honor throughout his career. I wish his replacement on the Council Mr John O'Donoghue ( Muckross ) all the best.

92 third year students, together with their JC3 yearhead Ms Janet Costello, marked the end of their Junior Cycle with a graduation ceremony on Thursday May 27th. Chaplain Ms Mairead Hickey and Ms Costello organised a lovely Graduation Service with much student involvement including beautiful music from JC3 music student LiQuin Hourihan and her mother Peggy. This group should have been sitting their Junior Certificate exams next month but are heading into their summer holidays instead. In his speech, Principal Mr Dermot Healy acknowledged the loss of this rite of passage for the group but stressed the qualities of resilience and endurance learned during this year which would stand to them into the future. After three years together, the group will split into transition year, leaving cert applied andSunday traditional leaving certtonext year so it will be the start of to from 8am 5pm something new for all of them and we look forward to great things to come from these outstanding students!

JC2 and JC3 students enjoyed a trip to Eclipse Outdoor Adventure Centre, Blackwater, to mark the end of their Junior Cycle Year accompanied by their yearhead Ms Janet Costello and some of their teachers at the end of May.

3,400 volunteers took part in this year's annual County clean up with this year's event taking place over a week to ensure public health guidelines could be observed and large gatherings were avoided. The Cathaoirleach of Kerry County Council, Cllr Patrick Connor Scarteen thanked everyone who took part and removed litter from their localities. Since it began in 2012, KWD, which supports the Kerry County Clean Up, has collected almost 60,000 bags of litter collected by volunteers and distributed 30,000 hi vis vests to ensure safety. Noel Crowley and many volunteers took part locally and with the SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition back up and running this year it was a great beginning towards Kenmare retaining its gold medal.

I am supporting very much the IFA’s 6 key objectives that they are seeking on CAP reform and support schemes. 1. To minimise the impact of the eco scheme on farmer’s basic payments. 2. Hold the line on 75% internal convergence. 3. Maximise National co-financing of pillar 2 farm schemes 4. 1.5 billion of carbon tax/revenue to be spent on agri environmental measures 5. Practical implementation of good agricultural environmental conditions 6. Phasing out of long term leasing of entitlements with appropriate definition of genuine farmers. I will be working diligently on behalf of the farmer’s of County Kerry as always, and as my office in Dublin is located in the Department of Agriculture I would urge Farmer’s to contact me with regard to any farming issues that you may have. KILLARNEY COMMUNITY HOSPITAL The provision of a new community hospital on the grounds of St Finnians Hospital in Killarney is of paramount importance to the people of Killarney and the surrounding areas. I will continue to pursue this matter to the best of my ability at all times. New Cross Border Scheme I am delighted to announce that a new temporary scheme has been introduced to ensure Irish patients can still access private healthcare in Northern Ireland after Brexit which will continue in 2021 for a 12 month period, The scheme will run the same as the cross border scheme so I urge people to contact me or my office to discuss this if you wish to travel to have any procedures carried out in Belfast under the new scheme. CLINICS During level 5 restrictions my clinics are currently postponed until the premises I use are allowed to open up under the new restriction In July However you can always contact me on 0872461678 or my office on 0646685782 which is fully operational during these times

LOCAL IMPROVEMENT FUNDING IS HUGELY DISAPPOINTING: I am hugely disappointed at the allocation of €689,930 funding allocated for Kerry as part of the €10.5 million roll out announced under the 2021 Local Improvement Scheme by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys. While I acknowledge that it was an increase of 5% on last year, I predict that it will do little for landowners who depend on this funding to improve private rural roads many of which are utilised by others seeking access to outdoor amenities such as lakes, rivers, mountains and beaches. What the Minister has done is managed to split an already small pie into even smaller pieces to keep every county happy. How can you explain that a county as big as Kerry gets only €689,930 while much smaller counties like Louth can get almost half of that allocation? There are more roads in South Kerry alone in need of this funding than the whole of County Louth. Many of the landowners in Kerry are already waiting a considerable amount of time to get their roads applications approved and this amount of money will do little to clear any backlog. It needed to be at least double that amount to be able to do anything significant The Local Improvement Scheme (LIS) is a scheme for the funding of improvement works to private roads (non-public roads) where landowners make a contribution to the improvement along with funding from the local authority. The scheme was re-introduced in 2017. T: 01 618 3363 - 064 66 85782 or E: michael.healyrae@oireachtas.ie

here comes a time in every business when change is necessary. The difficulty with change is magnified when you are talking about a hotel that dates from 1897 and has an international reputation. When John & Francis Brennan contemplated change at their Park Hotel Kenmare they met with many designers from Dublin to London to New York. After a process that took nearly 5 years they found the origins of that kindred spirit in Kenmare. Bryan O’Sullivan, son of Mickey Ned and Marian, has worked with some of the most acclaimed interior designers around the world, and since setting up his own studio, has opened offices in London and New York.

After a design process the result is like a movie set that was created for another time, another place but somehow perfectly fits the historic walls of the famed building. As you enter there is a chandelier that is so art deco that it should not work in the Park, but it does blissfully. It totally sets the tone for a journey that is simply enlightening and comfortable. Use of original art and fittings such as the Murano Glass light over the stockbrokers desk that features as reception, is relocated from the old dining room. With its new surroundings, created by Oliver Holbein of Kenmare, it oozes elegance. The main bar is now an oak and stone creation hand crafted by Joop and Adrian Duyn while local Beara based artist, Cormac Boydell, etchings adorn the walls and lit by Gerry and Eoghan O’Sullivan. It is all framed in a light blue that is so cool it would not look out of place in New York. The wooden floors are hand laid by Kevin Connors in various different styles. It must have taken months to execute the precision in every cut.

The restaurant is a triumph. As you enter the feature seating leads your eye to the windows and the views to the water. The Champagne Bar, offering over 20 of the finest producers from the region, is perfect for that pre dinner tipple. The original wood floor is back in full view for the first time in over 100 years. That is the skill of a good designer, to know what is true to the original and worth exploiting and what should go. The fusion between the historic Park and what is now is a testament to O’Sullivan’s skill. The other triumph is the skills of local craftsmen who made it all happen. It is a joy to experience it all. The Park and Kenmare has a new iconic attraction that bodes well for future generations as it did when it all started in 1897. The Park is open to non-residents for Afternoon Tea and Dinner daily. T: 087 222 4411 Farewell to students, teachers and SNA’s Now that the summer season is here I would like to wish all the Leaving cert students the best of luck in their exams and the very best for the future. I suppose by the time this goes to print the most of it will be over. Good luck to the national school students moving up to secondary. I would like to wish a fond farewell to the teachers and SNA’s that are retiring this year. Thank you all for years of service in building the education of our young people in this community. Silage season As the sun shines in the sky I would like to remind all farmers to keep safety in their minds as hay and silage season has well and truly begun. It is important that road users are mindful of extra traffic on our roads and tractors and machinery exiting fields. 25 years of Kenmare Mart On July 5th we will be celebrating a milestone at Kenmare Mart, servicing our farming community for 25 years. The first sheep sold at Kenmare Mart 25 years ago on the 8th of July 1996 was sold by George O’Neill, weighing 32kg and making €34.50 and bought by Paddy Herlihy. Due to Covid restrictions we will not be able to celebrate as we would like but we will mark it when we reach 25 + 1. Bicycle repair station I have asked Kerry County Council to introduce a pilot scheme around the ring of Kerry for bicycle repair stations in some towns. Congratulations Father Tom! I would like to congratulate Fr Tom Creen on celebrating 50 years of being a priest and thank him for his contribution to our community since he arrived.

It is such a long time since we met as a group but with hints of a return to normality all around us, there is hope on the horizon. The current committee and members are working hard behind the scenes to try and arrange a venue for meetings to take place safely and are considering the next schedule of meetings, subjects and guests. The KWG plays a significant role in welcoming newcomers to the area and in fostering long term friendships in the community. With its online presence and availability in outlets around the town, the Kenmare News ensures we are able to reach out to a wide audience and there has been a good deal of enquiries during lockdown from people who found themselves somewhat isolated in a new setting. As soon as we are up and running again, we will surely turn to the Kenmare News to help us let everyone know that a warm welcome awaits.

Sadly, we have lost another cherished member recently. Annick Bogaert passed away in a beautiful hospice in Holland surrounded by her seven children, nineteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her daughter, Joanna has told us how much the Women's Group meant to Annick during her four years in Kenmare but in fact, Annick meant a lot to us. She was always so interesting and never complained about her illness but rather entertained us with her wit and wry sense of humour; her intelligence and observation. She was excellent company during our coffee breaks and lunches. Many of us enjoyed fashion tips and advice on colours from guest speakers but Annick was always the height of elegance without effort! It was our great fortune to be friends with this lovely lady if only for a relatively short time. Our sincere sympathies are extended to her daughter, Joanna, of All Creatures Vet Centre in Kenmare and to the rest of the family. Rest in peace Annick. If you would like to know more about the Kenmare Women's Group, contact Allyson on 083 131322.

If anyone would like me to raise any issues with Kerry County Council please contact me on 087 2224411

MARKET HOUSE, THE SQUARE, KENMARE, CO KERRY

Gardening in May… …the Willowfield Way Compared to last year the early summer weather has been rather unsettled. The early weeks of May were dry and relatively cool but this was soon squashed or squelched as the rains returned and it has been hit and miss ever since. We are now approaching mid-summer with no spell of settled weather on the horizon. Just have to make the most of every day that comes along. But overall, in the garden, the shrubs and the summer plants are growing away fine even though the night temperatures have been unseasonably low. The most important task over the next few weeks is to finish getting your summer flowering plants planted up. Window boxes, hanging baskets, tubs, pots, barrels, boots, wheelbarrows…you name it, just plant it up ! This is an exciting time to add colour to your garden and to brighten up your patio areas or balconies for summer barbeques and eating outside in the evenings ! There is a wide range of plant varieties to choose from with different colour flowers and different growth habits from trailing ivies and Petunias to miniature conifers and the traditional Geranium. When planting up you can add slow release pellets to make

fertilizing easier and ‘swell gel’ can make watering a bit easier. Some of the better composts have extra fertilizer mixed through the peat and will not need additional fertilizer for several weeks while the cheaper composts will contain less fertilizer and will need feeding earlier. A new formulation of compost, ‘XXX ‘, which contains a seaweed extract is very good for summer container planting . As for the mixture of plants you choose it is entirely up to yourself ! you can choose a certain theme for your containers with shades of reds and pinks for example or go mad and make every container different. Whatever you want as you will be the one looking at it, so experiment a bit and enjoy the colour ! When you have the arrangements growing away , watch out for slug attacks and greenfly as well as checking your containers for watering each evening. It may not be necessary to water every evening but just get in to a habit of checking them and you can see if they are under attack from any bug or slug ! If you didn’t add any slow release fertilizer at the time of planting add some liquid feed when watering. Follow instructions regarding frequency of watering as each brand would be different. Out further now into the garden the lawn has become an abundance of daisies and buttercups in the ‘’ natural ‘’ lawns. By mowing at two week intervals it gives these wildflowers a chance to produce flower buds and open up before the next mowing. Also by raising the blades a little bit will also encourage the wild flowers to produce a display of flowers. If, however, you are in favour of a lawn of grass and no interruptions, spray with a lawn weed killer that will only kill the weeds or spread a 3 in1, lawn fertilizer which also contains a moss and weed killer. This will selectively kill the

weeds and moss at the same time as encouraging grass growth. Apply just before a wet spell so the fertilizer can get washed into the ground. As we approach mid-summer the range of shrubs that are coming in to flower is increasing. One of the best shrubs for this time of year is the Hydrangea. This has always been a traditional favourite for any garden. It thrives in wet conditions as well as being tolerant of dry spells. It comes in a wide range of flower colours in three distinct shapes. There is the more traditional ’Mop head’ varieties, then there is a more delicate and intricate flower head of the ’Lace Cap’ range. The third type are the cone shaped flower clusters of the taller, spiky, ’Panniculata’ types. All of these are great shrubs to have in your garden . This year there are several new varieties available as well as a range of flower colours in the ’Black Diamond’ range that has almost black coloured leaves which provides a fantastic back drop for their deep coloured flowers. On another note, the shrubs that have already flowered this year like Camelias, Spirea, Choisya, Forsythia..etc can be pruned back now so that they can start sprouting again with new growth and time to produce the buds for next spring’s flowers. The trees are only just recovering from the April storm which burnt the leaves off the early leafing Silver Birch, Willow and Beech. These are all in the process of re-shooting but still look brown and burnt at the moment on their shoot tips. They will recover in time. Call out to us at Willowfield Garden Centre for further advice, see you there, Simon and Margaret

On June 20th Father Tom Crean celebrated the Golden Jubilee of his ordination in 1971. While the Parish would have loved to have thrown a great party for him, because of the present restrictions, any events marking the occasion had to be kept as low key as possible. At Derreendarragh a mountain ash was planted to mark the occasion, as was a Golden Maple in Templenoe. His brother, William the Bishop of Cloyne, and his fellow priests from the surrounding parishes came to Holy Cross to wish him well, and many parishioners wanted to show their appreciation to Father Crean for his years of dedication and tireless ministry to the people and parish of Kenmare for the past seventeen years. Golf in Kenmare Kenmare GC Update Welcome to this month’s Kenmare Golf update. As all the locals can see, our building project is moving on at a really good pace. What you may not see is some hard work starting to pay off around the course. With the sunshine finally arriving, the sanding and drainage works carried out over the winter are really starting to show rewards and the course is in lovely condition. Visitor numbers are very strong, and we are seeing strong take up from visitors for our “Member for a week” €99 offer. This month we’d like to focus on women’s golf. Kenmare Golf Club – Ladies Update from Captain Noreen Maye We are absolutely delighted to be back in full ‘swing’ at Kenmare Golf Club with a busy and exciting calendar of events planned for the months ahead. What is to play for: In conjunction with our weekend competition, we are running a league sponsored by Rent and Irish Cottage and our Golfer of the Year sponsored by Topline Mc Carthy. Our Club Singles Matchplay sponsored by The Purple Heather and Club Foursomes sponsored by Noreen Crowley are set to get underway shortly so a lot of fantastic prizes to play for.

Patsy Miles, President Kenmare Golf Club, playing the course for the first time in many months with Joanne Bhamvra on a bright and blustery May morning. It's great to be back. Tempted to get out and try Golf? Kenmare GC is a community club and the doors are open. If you’d like to enquire about joining in with this, please give us a shout – info@kenmaregolfclub.com or 064-6641291. Both our ladies and men’s clubs are vibrant at the moment. We have people lined up to pass on old equipment, show you how to play and how things work, introduce you to people and get you hooked on the game we love. We’re also really conscious of our roots in the community – membership prices are low, there are no joining fees and because we have such a buzz around the club there’s always someone to give you a set of second hand clubs and the odd game of golf.

Inter Club Matches We have started our Inter Club campaign, where teams across all handicap ranges do battle with other clubs. On Monday 8th June, our Minor Cup Team, led by Manager Grainne Crowley were first off in a match against Parknasilla. The matches were played in a very jovial and sporting manner with Kenmare coming out on top after five remarkably close matches. Get into Golf We have had a huge response to our ‘Get into Golf’ Programme with twenty-four ladies taking to the fairways under the tutorship of PGA Professional Mark Heineman. We unfortunately could not fit in everyone who wanted to take part; however, we want to assure you that a warm and friendly welcome awaits you should you decide to take up golf and all our members would be happy to share golf tips and time with any new members. Please contact at info@kenmaregolfclub.com or 064 6641291 for information about membership. We are looking forward to welcoming you all to Kenmare Golf Club. Some of the results from June are below. SIDETRACKED is Kenmare's newest activity company. We offer guided and self guided eBike day tours on the Beara and Iveragh peninsulas. We can also design a package to suit your requirements, be that guided or self guided, one day or multi day tours. We are extremely proud of our fleet of bikes. All of our bikes are top of the range Bosch powered models from German manufacturers Riese & Muller and Kalkhoff. These are definitely not the usual bikes you will see elsewhere available for rent.

Guided day tours.

Visit us at our new outlet on Bridge street, just off the Square in Kenmare, or if you prefer we can deliver our eBikes direct to your accomodation. Don't worry if you haven't used an eBike before, they are no different to a regular bicycle, aside from the feeling that some miracilous power is towing you along. No more grinding up hills, head down, eyes staring at the front wheel. Instead you'll be sitting up straight taking in and appreciating all the stunning scenery that surrounds you.

Self guided tours/Rental.

Our eBikes allow you to go out and explore Kenmare's beautiful surrounds and really immerse yourself in the scenery and fresh air in a way that travelling by car and staring out a window just doesn't allow. You have all the freedom of a regular bike, but hardly any of the effort. They allow anyone, no matter how young or old, fit or unfit, to take to the road and take on even the biggest climbs. The feeling of freedom and fun means even the most avid cyclists can't help but love them.

We offer Guided scenic day tours, mainly on backroads and quieter main roads, stopping off at our favourite eateries along the way. Finish off your day with a bowl of mussels and a pint of Guinness overlooking the sea.

We'll advise you which route to take, based on your previous cycling experience, provide you with a map and off you go. We can even drop you off at a location away from the busier roads, so you never have to worry about your safety.

Customised multi day self-guided tours.

If you're looking to stretch your adventure out over a few days on a self guided eBike adventure, we're here to help. This type of tour is ideal if you are looking to make a weekend out of it. These tours are completely customised around your needs, so you get to enjoy the things that are important to you. Pannier bags are provided for your luggage.
