A title known the world over, Elf The Musical JR. is a must-produce holiday musical that can easily become an annual tradition for any theatre. Based on the cherished New Line Cinema hit, Elf JR. features songs by Tony Award-nominees, Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, with a book by Tony Award-winners, Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin.

Buddy, a young orphan, mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole. The would-be elf is raised, unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth.

About the Show

With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity. Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and that his half-brother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern-day holiday classic is sure to make every young performer embrace his or her “inner elf” with plenty of large ensemble numbers featuring elves and (New Yorkers) of every type.

Message from KCP Chairperson

We are so excited to welcome you back at full capacity to live theatre! This marks Kempenfelt Community Players 45th year. It is with great pleasure that we bring the 2022 edition of KCP with uplifting and dynamic titles to present at Georgian Theatre.

The performing arts unite us and bring a vibrancy to our lives. Being able to come together to share experiences - laughing, applauding, singing along - are activities that strengthen our sense of community. And when the performers, production team members and artistic leads are our neighbours, friends and family members, we can all take pride in being part of the exchange that happens when the lights dim and the music begins.

Message from KCP Chairperson

As I am sure you are aware, the last two years have been extremely challenging for the arts and community theatre. I am proud that KCP has been resilient and proactive in developing projects and events that helped us stay connected with our members and audiences. We rose to the challenge of the limitations imposed by the pandemic by offering online workshops and learning how to present virtually. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to our sponsors and volunteers who helped us weather the storm. Our success is due to them and the dedication of our Board of Directors and artistic leaders who provided creative direction and skills to adapt to new situations.

Message from Artistic Director

WELCOME BACK TO THE THEATRE!

We are so happy to have you here. It’s been a long and weird couple of years, but one thing hasn’t changed; there is nothing better than the moment the lights go down in a theatre and the show begins. You’ve picked a fun one to attend! Elf Jr is a funny, joyful show full of hilarious characters, lively music, a touching sweet story and, of course…Christmas cheer!

Buddy is a character we all know and love, he’s a naive, hopeful and happy fish out of water, dropped in one of the most intimidating places in the world…New York City. But while he is there he spreads his love and joy for life to everyone around him, overall making the city a better place!

Message from Artistic Director

I think Buddy’s story is also representative of the experience we all had putting this show on. For many of the cast (and crew) this was their first time being part of a show this scale. Whether it be onstage or off, entering into a new experience like this can be intimidating, especially considering the collective circumstances we have all come out of. However, this cast & crew have taken on the challenge like true champions, bringing joy, creativity, and perseverance to each rehearsal… and just generally being “Happy All The Time”. I couldn’t have asked for a better team of people to create with! Right from the beginning, we knew we wanted to spend time creating really immersive environments. keep reading...

Message from Artistic Director

In this show, we go from places like the North Pole, to the streets of New York City, to a corporate office, to a department store, and to Central Park. These are all places that are very different and should be unique in their own ways. We worked to establish this by really spending time creating dynamic characters onstage, just like all the people you would find in a big city like New York. These environments were also to be established by the things we see onstage, whether it be sets, costumes, props, lighting, or even video design. Every piece has been thought out to make each setting special and memorable! keep reading...

Message from Artistic Director

What you’ll see today is the collective effort of SO many people’s hard work, all with the goal of leaving you entertained and with a little bit of extra joy and happiness as we head into the busy holiday season. I can’t thank everyone involved enough for their support in making this show what it is!

And thank YOU for continuing to support live entertainment. Truly, it means the world, this obviously could not happen without you. Now give all these actors and actresses the love and energy they deserve right back!

Awards & Accolades

The Association of Community Theatre (ACT_CO) is a registered not for profit organization dedicated to supporting community theatre in Ontario. Along with education, their most visible activity however, is their Festival. Each year approximately 40 productions are entered into the musical categories for adjudication by working theatre professionals.

The festival culmicates each year in April at the annual Awards Gala where nominations and winners in each category are announced and recognized for outstanding performances and achievements. These awards called the THEA’s are presented at the Gala. KCP was pleased to join the Association in 2011 and has had at least one show adjudicated each year.
