KE diseñador | Roberto Verino Now we are on the verge of coming out of the long tunnel, I see several things very clearly, one is that you have to pamper your clients, the objective that starts when you approach him or her, listen to him or her without any intermediaries, satisfying him or her ‘in real time.’ Your presence in the winemaking sector has made a family project a reality. What has your experience been like so far? Would you say there are similarities between wine and fashion? The wine project is very personal just as much as the fashion one and, without a doubt, with less family derivatives than the latter. It is a whim that ended up turning into a small, but serious business, with such a precise discipline as that of the fashion world. In both, as my late friend Jesús del Pozo used to say, before the word success is used, you have to use the word work. Both bring you enormous satisfaction, physical and spiritual, but they are very demanding, it is no use after continued years of success to you put your foot in it. In both you are what your last season was.

How does the creator maintain enthusiasm, immersed in the business world? I confess, also very truthfully, because I have no other choice. I would love to be a designer in the hands of an extraordinary fashion business person, but as that is not possible, I have to manage myself. After years of ‘friendly schizophrenia’ I have got used to it. Now I know that the Roberto Verino businessman needs the enthusiasm of the designer Roberto Verino and vice-versa. Although it is incredible, now the most enthusiastic one in the project is the financier. Giving some inner thought, what could you tell us that years of work in the sector have shown you? There is the imperceptible value of the word humility. It is not false modesty, it is an intimate revelation of a conviction. Both in fashion as well as with wine it is true what the philosopher Socrates stated ‘I know one thing: that I know nothing’, or what is the same in other words, the more you know about fashion and the more you know about wine, it becomes ever so clear that you do not know anything about them...
