2 MICRO-HERMITAGE

MICRO-HERMITAGE

This project introduces the concept of subtractive forms. A 10’0”L x 8’-0” x 9’-0”H block is given to design a structure that will simultaneously accommodate the occupation of three bodies. The design should express the interaction with the structure and the experience of the space. Moreover, the design proposal must touch at least one wall or ceiling and must not include additional furniture.

INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

3

The design will be placed in the Industrial Studies building lobby.

I drew my inspiration from Sou Fujimoto’s Wooden House project. Fujimoto’s design helped me understand the relation of the block once it has been cut into. Thus, I designed a hermitage that was blocky and heavy like Fujimoto’s, but still had a light feel to the whole structure.

KIOSK

KIOSK

The kiosk project was inspired by Tadao Ando’s design on the University of Monterrey. Ando’s design is orderly/uniform and repetitive. It plays with senses to evoke curiousity. Concrete walls are his signature. Ando expresses his pride within his work. Light is an important factor.

INTERIOR DESIGN PORTFOLIO

13

Tadao Ando’s designs profusively expresses his pride. In my opinion, pride means surviving after a hardship. It is the overall transformation of starting off small and making a statement in the end. Afterwards, one feels stronger and prouder. The Enlightenment Kiosk is an example of that.

Project: Bundles of Translation is a family of objects to form a common species. Each individual model reflects both movement and depth . They are first constructed by a metal hanger, which was manipulated to resemble a mishappened skeleton. The fibers of the basket was used to form the species’ skin. The other object(s) surrounding the wire helps the viewer get a sense of movement. PART II: A Center for Disobedient Objects To create spaces with drawings made from part one.
