During JLNVB’s second year commitment to its signature Healthy Kids Initiative, members have impacted the community, begun new programs and partnerships and strived to bring a stronger awareness to the epidemic of childhood obesity. Childhood obesity is a significant and growing health concern that has reached epidemic proportions. The percentage of children who are overweight has tripled since the early 1970s. One in every six children between the age of 6 and 19 is now overweight. Many activities are currently underway in Hampton Roads to prevent or reduce childhood obesity, but more work needs to be done. Jenn Morelen, Community Impact Award Honoree
Jenn Morelen’s enthusiasm, commitment and leadership skills have made a positive impact on JLNVB and the Hampton Roads Community through projects such as Kids in the Kitchen. Jenn took on chairing this year’s event with the end result a very successful one. Her enthusiasm was contagious not just to fellow committee members but to those in the community involved in the event. Through every action of leading the Kids in the Kitchen, Jenn exemplified JLVNB’s mission. She truly went above and beyond her role as this year’s chair. Congratulations to Jenn Morelen, this year’s Community Impact honoree!
