Potter’s Wheel with Gary Silkman This is your chance to learn how to throw on the potters wheel. You will have plenty of time to perfect your skills as we will spend 6 weeks on the wheel. Chinese Brush Painting with Betty Liu Betty Liu brings a rich imagination to Beginning Chinese painting. From basic Plum, Bamboo, Orchid & Chrysanthemum to advanced, mixing both eastern and western styles of watercolor painting. Professional Fine Art Gallery September 7-November 1 “On the Wild Side” Reception 6-8 p.m., Friday, September 7 Take a walk on the wild side with animal-themed art; oil paintings and gourds by Judy Arrigotti, photography by Lewis Kemper, and watercolors by Monica Turner.

November 9-January 11 “Just Desserts” Reception 6-8 p.m., Friday, November 9 An exhibit of yummy delights just in time for the holidays! Featuring oil paintings by Kit Night, acrylics by Susan Ballenger, and ceramics by Jeff Nebeker. Winners from the “Folsom Focus” photography competition will also be on display.

September 7-October 31 “Paintings by the Animals at the Folsom City Zoo Sanctuary” These fascinating paintings are actually painted by the animals at the zoo. Bears, mountain lions, and other animals were given non-toxic paints to create their unique masterpieces!

November 9-January 4 “Folsom Focus” Photography Contest Join us to view this annual local competition attracting over 300 photographic entries by kids and adults, with six subject matter categories. See page 2 for contest details.

Photography Basic 102: Lighting Want to know the secret to good photography? It’s LIGHTING! If you can use your SLR camera on manual then come and learn how to manipulate light at any time of day and under any conditions. During this course learn the difference between quantity, quality, and direction of light. The course offers intensive hands-on coaching on controlling your camera when creating photographs. Class includes information on such subjects as camera technology, lenses, use of Fstops and shutter speeds. Also learn the basics of purchasing equipment. Bring an adjustable camera and all equipment to the first class. Photography Intermediate 202: Macro Nature is exciting to photograph and nature photos are a beautiful addition to your wall. This course offers one of the most fun types of nature photography - MACRO. Learn about the equipment and techniques you need to get close to your subject. An “on location shoot” will be scheduled with individual critique of photographs to follow. Contestants may enter a total of three photos in their age group (ranging from children to adults) and select from three themes. Prizes are awarded for each theme in each age group, including a $100 Best of Show award. Find details, contest rules, and entry forms at Entry deadline is Friday, Oct. 19 (entries accepted Oct. 1-19). Art with the Animals at Folsom Zoo

Using their paws and non-toxic paints, zoo animals create beautiful artwork. Join a zookeeper as an animal artist paints a masterpiece for you! Our featured animal “artists in residence” include bears, cougars, wolves, foxes and tigers. For $150 (plus tax) you select your animal artist and up to three colors of paint for them to use;then you come and watch while the painting is created for you. Pressed for time? Just choose your animal artist and up to three colors for $100 – we’ll have the painting created for you and ready for pickup.
