Kelli’s Kiln

This October, we begin the yearly Stewardship Campaign to live out our ministry for the year 2013. As inheritors of many gifts of the faith, we are called to seek God’s purposes for our whole lives. We open up our heads and our hearts, sharing with one another all that we are. To begin our campaign, I ask that you say a daily prayer between now and November 4, our Consecration Sunday when we share with the church our estimated giving for the next year of time, talent and treasures. Please pray with me this prayer:

In I Chronicles 28, King David gathers all the leaders of Israel in Jerusalem. David had a dream to build a home for the Ark of the Covenant, the special box holding the Ten Commandments. God, however, had other plans. David revealed to his son Solomon that God wanted his son to build this house. David gives Solomon lots of direction concerning the nature of the temple to be built. In one verse, David gives Solomon advice concerning his relationship with God. In verse 9 we hear, “ And you, my son Solomon, know the God of your father, and serve him with single mind and willing heart; for the Lord searches every mind, and understands every plan and thought. If Holy One, we are richly blessed with an ancient you seek him, he will be found by you…” faith. In response, we ask You to reveal in our heads and hearts how we can share this faith We are not people charged to build a through our time, talent, and treasure. Amen temple. Our temple has already been built. We have a wonderful place to worship and gather together as a church and a building that regularly serves the needs of our community. David’s attention to the heart and mind is a welcome reminder for us as we seek to serve God today. We have inherited our father’s (and mother’s and clouds of witnesses who came before us) faith and a special place to gather.

Are You Hungry? Are you hungry? Let's see what time is it? Time for breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Time for a snack? If you have something satisfying to eat, you are among the fortunate ones. There are an estimated 95 million people in the world who are now (and usually are) hungry! It is surprising how many people in Oklahoma are among them. Some of them are right here in Tulsa, and their numbers are increasing. A group of us at Bethany will be walking, Oct. 7, to raise money to alleviate that hunger. We'll step off together at 2 p.m. from Boston Ave. United Methodist Church. Are you going to be one of us? Around the country thousands of caring people walk every year to end hunger: 

68% of the walkers are over 18, average age is 33.5.

About two-thirds are women.

Half are CROP Hunger Walking for their second, third, fourth, or more time. 73% of participants say fighting hunger locally and globally is their key reason for taking part.

Walkers get about 95% of their sponsors from their place of worship, family, neighborhood and workplace.

Please add your name to the list, Sunday, as a walker or a contributor. Or, if you prefer, control + click on this link to take a bite out of hunger and encourage our walkers. http://www.churchworldservice.org/goto/bethanyCROP
