Kelli’s Kiln The rain drops on the dry dirt and creates faint clouds of dust. With ground so dry it puffs up at any movement, our patience for the summer heat evaporates. We wait for rain. Can you see the aching plants? They cower before the sun! Often, our souls feel parched for God’s presence in the same way. We feel a trickling of love on our shoulders and notice that all the messy things in our hearts come flying up. We ache for a moment of relief and see that relief reveal all those things we want hidden. I do not know what you hide from God, and I don’t want to tell you what I hide. Suffice it to say, we each have parts of our hearts and minds that we set aside, leave behind, or even hide. God wants to help us with these things. God seeks to nourish us with love and care. That nourishment comes with one request: share your full life with me. Like the rain stirring up the dry dirt, God’s love will do the same with our hearts, minds and souls. Accepting the lavish care of God reminds us of those ways we have not been loved in such a way, the times where our failures or another’s define our worth. Our identity becomes distorted from how we are seen by God, as a beloved child. So let it rain! Rain love, O Holy One! Bring up a dust storm of emotion. We will settle into the comfort of your embrace and know our true selves.
