J un e H ap pe ni ng s June in Waikiki is a time to pay tribute to King Kamehameha, who established the Kingdom of Hawaii in 1810. On June 7 at 3:30 pm, watch as a 25-foot flower lei is weaved on-site and draped over Kamehameha’s statue in Downtown Honolulu. On June 8 at 9 am, the Floral Parade will make its way through Waikiki, with hula dancers, pa’u riders (see below), floats, and marching bands. Culminating at Kapiolani Park with the annual Ho’olaule’a (celebration), you will enjoy performances, food booths and cultural demonstrations from 10 am – 4 pm.

A Hawaiian history lesson to prepare you for the festivities: Pa’u riders = Exquisite women on horseback in elegant gowns, adorned with flowers, and draped with the pa’u - a traditional long wrap used by Hawaiian royalty to protect their wardrobe from dust. You’ll be awed by the beautiful crafted flower arrangements and regal showcase of each rider.
