WISE Summit, Doha-Qatar The Executive Chairman KEF-Pakistan, Vice Admiral (R) Farooq Rashid, attended the World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) at Doha, Qatar from 16th to 18th November, 2009. Its main focus was on "Global Education: Working Together for Sustainable Achievements" and the three sub themes of pluralism, sustainability and innovation. The ultimate goal of the Summit was to find constructive ways to turn words into actions in order to modernize educational systems at the local, national and international levels. Collaboration and Capacity Building ! Intel (Pakistan) has provided us a license

to use its "Learning Management System" (LMS) as part of teachers training. They have also agreed to conduct workshops for KEF faculty. The first workshop was conducted from 29th Dec, 2009-2nd Jan, 2010.

Changes in the Management Mr. Asif Habib Khan assumed the appointment of Principal on 24th August, 2009. Extra-Curricular Activities The students participated actively in extracurricular activities. Debate competition was held in August for classes 4-10. Academics Students who will appear in HSSC examinations in 2011 have been given the choice of appearing from Mirpur Board, as PVPS is now affiliated with Mirpur Board as well. Students' Excellence in External Competitions Pearls of PVPS also participated in external competitions: ! Haider Ali Raja, of Class X secured third position in speech competition, which was held on 14th August. ! Farukh Rafique of Class VIII secured second position in Seerat-un-Nabi competition. ! Kashmala Imtiaz of Class VIII secured third position in essay competition, which was organized by Valentines High School, UK.

Kashmir Education Foundation APID Test APID (Assessment of Pre-School Intellectual Development) Test for Prep Class was conducted on 21st and 22nd November, 2009. A total of 61 candidates qualified (29 boys & 32 girls). Two sections of Prep Class would be there in session 2010. Lateral entries' tests would be held in March 2010.

Selected teachers attended a teaching workshop from 25th -27th December, 2009 conducted for all the three schools in Basali Complex by ITE and external professionals. Tributes were paid in a very lively way to the gallant armed forces of Pakistan including observance of two minutes silence in the honour of our martyrs. The skits also included comedy and touched serious social issues. The ceremony ended with prize distribution and presentations. The gathering was of over 800 guests and students.

Extra Curricular Activities ! Independence Day was celebrated at Soan Valley Public School to stimulate the spirit of patriotism in the students. The students participated in the event with enthusiasm and paid tribute to the national heroes. ! An Eid Gala was also organized on 25th September, 2009 for the staff & students. Its main purpose was to provide an opportunity to the students to understand the significance of social & religious events. Farewell Mrs. Kaukab Ara Nasir relinquished the Principal's office on 4th of December 2009 to pursue her PhD. She served for over four years. KEF thanks her for her contributions and wishes her the best in her future endeavors. Capacity Building Teachers of SVPS participated in the following activities conducted at the ITE: ! Teacher's In-service Workshop-25th to 28th December, 2009. ! Intel Teach Programme-29th December, 2009-2nd January, 2010. BANJOSA VALLEY PUBLIC SCHOOL (BVPS) Visit Miss Jonah Galupo, a VSO volunteer working with the ITE, visited Banjosa Valley Public School from 6th July to 16th July, 2009. She conducted a workshop on calligraphy for BVPS teachers besides conducting classes.

Closure of School The school like the rest of the country unfortunately had its share of security issues, and was closed for one week in October.

In-Service Program for KEF's Teachers ! ITE conducted three days' workshop for the teachers of

Soan Valley Public School and students of PGDC07 from August 18th - 20th, 2009. The aim of the workshop was to enhance their skills and knowledge in

APID Test APID Test for Prep Class was held on 23rd and 24th of November, 2009. Out of 47 children who appeared for the test, 43 qualified (27 Boys and 16 Girls). The total number of students at the beginning of next session would be 147. INSTITUTE OF TEACHERS EDUCATION-(ITE) Changes in the Management Miss Saira Said Ahmed assumed the appointment of Acting Director ITE with effect from 5th October, 2009. Basic English Language & Basic Computer Course ITE staff organized two courses simultaneously on Basic English Language and Basic Computer from June 15th, 2009 to July 15th, 2009 for local boys and girls awaiting their school/college results. The objective of the course was to equip students with basic reading, writing, listening and speaking & computer skills.

ITE for the faculty of KEF's schools from 25th- 28th December, 2009. During this workshop Brig. Mowadat Hussain Rana, Advisor in Psychiatry & Commandant AFIMH (Armed Forces Institute of Mental Health) conducted a two hours session on "Emotional Literacy in Handling Learners". The Chairman and COO also attended the session.

Graduation Day The Graduation Day for PGDC-07 was celebrated on 16th November, 2009. The program was conducted by the

Workshop by Intel A teacher training workshop (TEACH TO FUTURE PROGRAM) by Intel (Pakistan) was conducted at ITE from 29th December, 2009-2nd January, 2010 for the faculty of ITE and KEF's schools. Departures Following left the ITE / KEF: 1. Mrs. Aisha Kamran (Director ITE) on September 30th, 2009. 2. Mrs. Nasreen Malik (Urdu faculty) on being appointed in Allama Iqbal Open University. 3. Ms. Jonah G. P, a VSO volunteer from Philippines, on 30th September, 2009 after completion of her tenure. KEF thanks them for their valuable contributions at ITE and wishes them well in their future pursuits.

KEF UK Annual Dinners ! Two Fund raising dinners were held. Vice Admiral (R)

Chairman KEF-UK along with Trustee, Mr. Abdul Qayyum, had a meeting on 15th of November, 2009 with Dr. Ahson M. Umar Director of A2Z Associates Ltd to explore the possibilities of provision of educational services and support to KEF. Dr. Ahson appreciated the work being done by KEF UK and we hope that KEF will benefit from his skills and excellent services in the future. London Team Mrs. Iffat Ferdinand, Trustee KEF-UK, along with Dr. Ashon M. Umar, Nisar Raja and Ishfaq Kiyani are working to develop another team (London Team).
