Bypass Construction to Begin in November College Drive Keene to North Main Street in Cleburne In an ongoing effort to improve safety and relieve congestion, the Texas Transportation Commission approved $28.5 million for the expansion of U.S. 67 to a four lane highway. This project completes the U.S. 67 Bypass

expansion around Cleburne for a total of $58.8 million in safety and mobility improvements in recent years. The completion of U.S. 67 is an extremely important project for the citizens of Johnson County, said Johnson County Judge Harmon. The new roadway will enhance

the ability for our citizens to travel in a much safer mode and will reduce the travel time. I would like to express my appreciation to TxDOT for their determination to finish this roadway for our citizens. Lone Star Civil Construction, Inc. was awarded the project that will widen the existing

highway to a four lane divided highway. The project will stretch along U.S. 67 from SH 174 to BUS 67/SPUR 102. Construction is estimated to begin fall 2013 and be completed by summer 2016. This important project is the last of three projects that improves the U.S. 67 Cleburne

bypass to full capacity, said Brian Barth, Interim District Engineer. We appreciate our partnership with the Regional Transportation Council of the North Central Texas Council of Governments that secured funding for this project. This $28.5 million project is the final phase for widening

U.S. 67 around Cleburne. The first $12.8 million U.S. 67 widening project from Nolan River Road to just east of SH 174 was completed in April 2011. The second $17.5 million U.S. 67 widening project from Nolan River Road to Business U.S. 67 was completed in December 2012.

On Thursday evening the Keene ISD held on an open house for all three campuses of the district. In conjunction with the open house, first year superintendent Ricky Stephens, inaugurated the first community-wide hot dog feed. It was Ricky Stephens intentions to get as many people to come visit the district’s schools and teachers, whether they had children enrolled or not. It worked. It was estimated that over 1400 people came, ate and visited the district’s campuses. The current school board members along with several staff members served over 1900 all beef hot dogs and over 300 “vegetable” hot dogs to the visitors that night. In addition to all the hot dogs eaten almost 950 snow cones were served in front of the Keene Junior High. After the food and the report cards were handed out the cafetorium was the site of the candidates forum. Not many spectators stayed to listen to the 10 candidates that were able to be present. Tom Kimbrow, moderated the forum with the help of Peyton Stephens.
