NCPA This semester we held a speakers series, “Staying relevant: The future innovations of independent pharmacy.” On February 7th, McKesson had an ownership panel consisting of 2 local independent pharmacy owners and 1 manager in a long term care pharmacy. They discussed their experiences of ownership and how they started their pharmacies. On March 22nd, we had another session with Mike Bollinger from Cardinal Health. He discussed the logistics of buying and selling an independent pharmacy. The last speaker for the series, JoEllen Miller, will be coming on April 12th. Elections for executive offices will be held prior to her presentation. NCPA has taken charge of coordinating the school of pharmacy’s presence at the SIUe Employee Benefit Fair on April 26th. We are working with ASCP, SSHP, and faculty to

provide File of Life, Brown Bag

counseling sessions, osteoporosis screenings, and medication disposal for the employees of SIUe. We are excited to provide these services and hope the event is a success. Kristie Rees– NCPA President

ASCP The ASCP Chapter recently received a Meridian Society Grant to co-develop a Hospice Volunteer Training Program. This will be a great opportunity to get involved in the community and help out a well deserving program. ASCP also sponsored a File of Life event at the Edwardsville Schnucks Pharmacy on March 16, 2012. The event was successful by performing 5 complete File of Life cards and providing 15 cards to other interested patients. ASCP would like to thank Dr. Teri Kerr and all those who volunteered to help! ASCP is having a spring clothing sale during the month of March to raise funds for future community projects. See Roxane Spann if you are interested in ordering a tote bag, hoodie, or V-neck pull over. Various colors are available and each will be embroidered with the SIUE School of Pharmacy logo. The deadline for ordering is March 23. Elections for ASCP will be held on April 3rd. We are looking for interested P1s and P2s to run for office and take a leadership role in the future of ASCP. Mark your calendar for the ASCP Spring Barbeque which will be held April 24 during common hour. Expect the food to be delicious and the weather to be beautiful!

APhA APhA has had a very busy spring semester. We kicked it off with another very successful Diabetes Symposium. It was held in the Morris University Center on campus and we reached over 200 people in the community at this event. We have also continued to inform the community about medications and pharmacists with presentations presented by the Medication Awareness Program. ASP also got a great start on two brand new events to the chapter. The first was a homeless health clinic in collaboration with medical students in Springfield, IL This was a great start to Project CHANCE and we hope to continue to

University Center. We had a great turn out at the event

At this meeting our chapter received 1st runner up in the AA division for chapter achievement! It was a great honor to be recognized nationally as a successful chapter and we would like to thank everyone who puts their hard work into making ASP so successful each year. Most recently, Operation OTC hosted an event at Buffalo Wild Wings. Those who attended saw Ryan Birk dominate Dr. Jessica Kerr in the wing eating contest. Everyone is looking forward to seeing her sport the trendy pink hair and pink panther costume! Student members, Chris Walters, Derek Smith, and Harry Zollars in addition to Dr.Hecht also completed the Blazing Challenge which was a spectacle for all in attendance. Be on the lookout for information on our upcoming trip to Six Flags! Mallory Klein ( will be sending the details soon. Class of 2015 During the year of 2011-2012, the Class of 2015 has done many events and plan to do much more. Beginning of the 2011-2012, school year, a class fundraiser was conducted by selling t-shirts with the cute saying, “Drugs are my Life”. At the end of this fundraiser, the class managed to raise over $1000. A great start for the new school year. In February 2012, the class crated a new fundraiser to the school called e-Pharmony. This was a survey that was filled out by students and their answers were compared with other students in the school. Based on these comparisons, they were best “matched” with the person that had the most matched answers. This went overall well for the first time making over $100. In the future, the class is planning on having another fundraiser night at Cold Stone Creamery. Cold Stone has been nice enough to donate part of their profits for a specific night. Another fundraiser event that is in the making is a Mother’s/Father’s Day t-shirt. We are now designing a t-shirt that can be sold as a gift for parents during the Mother/Father Day season.
