The central void gently slopes down toward the water, establishing a dynamic relationship with Boston’s waterfront. It is activated by classrooms, which open with expansive views of the harbor, allowing performances to spill out into the courtyard. The central courtyard, a destination for the walking city of Boston, also divides the large program into two wings, relating the project’s scale to that of the North End. The classrooms both conceptually and physically form the foundation upon which the two large performance halls sit.
