11TH NATIONAL LIGHTING THE COMMUNITY SUMMIT

WELCOME to FACE’s 11th National Lighting the Community Summit. This year's theme is "A Time to HEAL: Health, Equity, Advocacy, Leadership."

This past pandemic year has been wrought with much pain from deaths, racism, economic losses to violence and division. In the AAPI community, we have seen much of these disparities including continued anti-Asian hate. We recognize much healing is needed as individuals, communities and as a nation but we need the tools and resources to rebuild our future. This year's summit is to look at where we are, how do we lead and do things differently that will bring healing and renewal that will lead to unity, health and equity for all. We ask you to join us. In light of our current political environment and world conditions, we are especially delighted to be convening this gathering of Asian American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) faith leaders, corporate leaders, elected officials and the broader community to equip, engage, and partner in addressing the many challenges facing our communities, country, and even the world.

It is time to engage, build bridges, and grow our influence & positive WITNESS to the world, that we may ADVOCATE for those who are voiceless, and foster PARTNERSHIPS that unite and serve our communities.

Our theme reflects the endless possibilities if we bring our communities together as well as the vision of this Summit. No community is an island. We are all stronger when we stand united and fully equipped to serve one another. The AAPI faith community has been active through evangelism, global missions, and direct service. Yet our voice and presence have been missing at the local and national front due to marginalization and our own disengagement. We come to this summit as those who are called to be salt and light to the world and to be bold witnesses in every sphere of life. This calling is greater than any particular political stance or social agenda. It is time to engage, build bridges, and grow our influence & positive WITNESS to the world, that we may ADVOCATE for those who are voiceless, and foster PARTNERSHIPS that unite and serve our communities. Finally, we come to shine our light and to bless/pray for our city and our nation’s leaders. Thank you for your partnership.

Bishop Grant Hagiya

California-Pacific Conference of the UMC

President, Wesley Theological Seminary

I want to share my deepest congratulations to FACE and Rev. Hyepin Im, Executive Director on the celebration of their 20th Anniversary. FACE and Rev. Im represent our Asian American community at its finest to all of Southern California and even beyond our borders, as they have received national attention especially from the Biden/Harris Presidential Administration. I look forward to the next 20 years of growth and prosperity for FACE!

Congratulations to FACE on its 20th Anniversary. You have accomplished so much in all these years, but in now certainly seems you were founded for such a time as this. Your theme this year matches this moment in the history of America. Thank you for your leadership.

Congressman Ted Lieu

Assemblyman Steven Choi

California's 33rd congressional district

California's 68th Assembly District

I am delighted to be an Honorary Committee Member for FACE’s 11th National Summit. This year’s theme is about healing from what has been an especially challenging period for us all, and especially for members of the AAPI community, many of whom have been subjected to an increase in racially motivated hate crimes and violence since the start of the pandemic. I am grateful for FACE’s leadership, which I hope will inspire us all to find ways to bring healing to our communities as we work toward a more just and equitable America.

Thank you to the Faith and Community Empowerment (FACE) organization for all of your outstanding efforts. Your organization continues to work tirelessly to bring communities together and to bridge the gap with the resources and tools necessary for equity and inclusivity. Thank you for the many services that you make possible and the hope you provide for so many.

Congresswoman Judy Chu California's 27th Congressional District I’m so thrilled to help congratulate FACE on your 20th anniversary and your 11th Annual Lighting the Community Summit. I especially want to thank FACE and your amazing CEO, Hyepin Im, for all you are doing to bring our communities together and promote healing. For years, I have been so proud to stand with you and support your work to address inequality, housing, business opportunity, health care, immigration and more. I believe we need more leaders to hear from you, which is why, since 2014, I have been proud to be your sponsor on Capitol Hill, bringing you and your voices to Washington D.C. so that you can bring your message of healing directly to our leaders. That message is more important now than ever. This past year and a half has truly been a time unlike any other as our country grappled with a pandemic, recession, and a reckoning with our own history of racism.
