Tarleton’s Department of Communication Studies to Offer New Masters Program

STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The Department of Communications Studies is in the process of being approved to offer a master’s program based out of the Fort Worth campus. Tarleton believes that now is a great time to start a new masters program considering that the Communications department is not very old but yet has enough faculties to provide adequate education. Tarleton also has enough expertise specialties with the Texas Social Media Research Institute and The Journal of Social Media in Society both being on campus. The program plans to offer a 30-hour non-thesis option degree in computer-mediated communication, new media technology, and organizational communication. The program will also offer certificates after three courses in Social Media and Organizational Communications. The program is going to be applied in nature offering a combination between face-to-face, online, and hybrid classes. The face-to-face classes will plan to meet weeknights and weekends to cater to full-time working students. The admissions to the program are planning on being a max capacity between 15-20 students. There is a GPA requirement of at least a 3.0 during the last 60 credit hours taken during their undergraduate. If students with a GPA lower than a 3.0 would like to apply then they must take the GRE. Tarleton State University is hopeful to be fully approved by fall of 2015.
