Cricket great Loves coming back home

Ex-Australian cricketer Martin Love returned home to play for the Mundubbera and District cricket team against the touring Wanderer’s side from Brisbane in an exciting game on Saturday. Wanderer’s won the toss and elected to bat and scored a total of 8 for 295. Some tight bowling early from the locals restricted the scoring before Ben Allan broke through with the wicket of Pferrer out for 12. The next over Mick Trevanian struck with a wicket to make the score 2 for 32 after 9 overs. Steady progress was made by the visitors before David Shepherd broke through with his second ball to make the score 3 for 72 at drinks. Wickets continued to fall at a steady rate to have the visitors in trouble at 6 for 200 after 40 overs but some late order hitting from top scorers Russell and McEvoy boosted the score to 295 after their 50 overs. Other wicket takers for the locals were Hayden Ryan with 2, Lex Webster, Matt Jacobi and James Stallan. Love opened the batting for the locals along with Brian Gallagher and didn’t disappoint the crowd, being the highest scorer with 84. With the early wickets of Gallagher and Shane Kugel falling, the score at drinks was 2 for 84. Clayton Paulson joined Love at the crease and added 98 before Love was caught off the bowling of Hannan with the total on 147. When Paulson retired hurt on 77 the locals were still in a strong position needing another 106 runs off 14 overs with 5 wickets in hand. The visitors were not about to have their first loss of the tour and produced some tight bowling in the final overs to bowl Mundubbera out for 252 and winning by 43 runs.

The Wanderers’ Aaron Moore scored a total of 26 runs before being caught out by Martin Love.
