SPIRIT OF THE BREED AWARD The Spirit of the Breed Award was established in order to recognize individuals, couples, families, or ranches/farms that have made significant contributions above and beyond the call of duty to the betterment of the Southdown breed. In an organization that spans the United States, many times these contributions are unknown to an entire membership. This award is an opportunity to honor those who have not only been in the forefront, but also have been behind the scenes offering educational and hands-on assistance to junior members and other breeders. The recipient of the Southdown Spirit of the Breed Award is announced at the annual meeting of the American Southdown Breeders’ Association at the North American International Livestock Exposition at Louisville, Kentucky in November. A revolving trophy donated by Northern Starr Livestock Services at the 125th Anniversary of the ASBA is awarded to the recipient for one year, and a permanent plaque is provided the following year upon return of the trophy. You, as junior or senior members, of the Southdown association are invited to nominate someone you feel deserves this award and that fulfills the following: 1. HAVE SHOWN EXEMPLARY SERVICE TO THE BREED 2. ARE TWENTY-TWO YEARS AND OLDER 3. HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY WON THE SPIRIT OF THE BREED AWARD Submit the application with the following: 1. NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND ADDRESS OF PERSON SUBMITTING THE APPLICATION 2. NAME, PHONE NUMBER, AND ADDRESS OF THE INDIVIDUAL, COUPLE, FAMILY, OR RANCH/FARM NOMINATED 3. ORGANIZATIONS, GROUPS, SCHOOLS, ETC. IN ADDITION TO THE ASBA IN WHICH THE NOMINEE IS INVOLVED 4. APPROXIMATE NUMBER OF YEARS THE NOMINEE HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ASBA 5. OTHER LIVESTOCK IN ADDITION TO SOUTHDOWNS RAISED BY THE NOMINEE 6. HOW THE NOMINEE SERVES AS A ROLE MODEL OR EMULATES THE SOUTHDOWN BREED IDEALS 7.
