I searched for photographs exemplary of the beauty and possibility cultivated in the lives of ordinary black girls and young women and that stoked dreams of what might be possible if you could escape the house of bondage.

Creator’s Note
This collection of moments is a snapshot into the beautiful and errant lives of Black women and femmes. It’s a display of tenderness to juxtapose the scarcity of care we experience. To celebrate our everyday choreography is a radical act of expression. To record our riot and rage is no different than the act our ancestors took to archive their stories in poems, paintings and jazz riffs. This is a protest of the everyday assault this world subjects our bodies to. Here you’ll find the vagrant, the untouchable, the radical, the wild, the unwed, the runaway, the lady lover, the rebellious, the unnamed, the wayward.
