WELCOME MESSAGE “I think this is awesome! It shows you the history of sports from 1952-2012. I like the hockey cards and the rock climbing wall. Tons of people inspired me and my experience here was the best. Overall I give the Hall of Fame a 10 of out of 10.” - Grade 5 student from Clinton Elementary School

As you can see in the above Grade 5 student quote, when young people are exposed to the BC Sports Hall of Fame they learn the values and power of sport. They are inspired by the stories of perseverance, dedication and commitment and are encouraged to adopt these characteristics in their lives. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is more than pictures on the wall and more than a great collection of artifacts – it is a centre for inspiration. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is YOUR BC Sports Hall of Fame. We invite you and your guests to: Visit. Explore. Experience. Be Proud. Be Inspired. The BC Sports Hall of Fame is proud to share the stories of 344 individuals and 56 teams who have achieved sporting greatness at our 12,000 square foot museum or in the community through our outreach programs. Each and every Hall of Famer has brought honour and pride to British Columbia and all are exceptional role models for future generations. On behalf of our Executive, Board of Trustees, Foundation members, our exceptional hard working volunteers and staff, I am pleased to present this Annual Report and encourage you to review this year’s activities and accomplishments. Thank you to all of our partners, donors and supporters for another great year. Since 1966 the BC Sports Hall of Fame has played an important role in our province and everyone associated with our organization takes great pride in this responsibility. We believe what we do is important and the stories we preserve for British Columbians can make a significant difference in the lives of young people and families. ALLISON MAILER Executive Director

MISSION The BC Sports Hall of Fame preserves and honours BC’s sport heritage by recognizing extraordinary achievement in sport by using our collection and stories to inspire all British Columbians to pursue their dreams. VISION Honouring the Past. Inspiring the Future. VALUES Integrity. Respect. Inspiration.

FACILITY SPORT IN BC - CHOOSE YOUR PATH

The Sport In BC - Choose Your Path exhibit tells the story of British Columbia’s integrated sport system. The exhibit celebrates the successes of athletes, coaches, teams and volunteers while showcasing how an athlete goes through stages of development from an Active Start through the high performance stages with the goal of being Active for Life. The exhibit will have an outreach component that will be set up at various sporting events and festivals throughout BC. Chair of the Special Exhibit and Facility Planning Committee Barb Maple said, “I would like to thank the Province of BC and in particular the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development for their support in this new exhibit. On behalf of everyone here at the BC Sports Hall of Fame - thank you for choosing our organization to help tell this important story.”

The Heroes in the Hall program directly aligns with our mission of honouring the past, inspiring the future using the stories of our Hall of Famers and artifacts to inspire British Columbians to pursue and achieve their dreams. Through interactive educational materials and physical activity at the hall, youth at risk had a unique opportunity to learn about the history of BC through their sport heroes while being physically active and engaged.
