Statement of Intent
A new festival in Scandinavia
1 THE PROJECT
Avant-garde Jazz always was a New-York phenomenon. It is the same city that saw the laws of musical harmony broken. With that in mind and in these locations Barking Dogs Productions organised in 2008 a Jazz festival that saw 8 concerts take place during 8 days in 8 different clubs. The production company bet on the HD technology to shoot these concerts, and the resulting movies were run on television, in Blu Ray and in theatres. Based on the same principle, Barking Dogs will organize in 2010 a Festival in Scandinavia, shining with the rythms and colors of Jazz ...

A release in theaters is therefore projected in September 2010, so as to allow jazz amateurs as well as broad audiences to embark on a journey of jazzy notes’ flows and pleasure driven contemplation of passionnate musicians on a big screen.
4 STATEMENT OF INTENT Photographer William Claxton, in a monumental book, «Jazz Life», did a series of portraits of jazz musicians from the sixtie’s. What comes out of these pictures, is a joy of living, a way of seizing jazzmen in action, men and women who fully lived their existence in the practice of their art. William Claxton applied himself to seize musical instants, with no pathos, in which he put all the essential elements of jazz being a real apart musical genre. This is to say that he underlined, in these pictures, the tenuous link that the jazzman keeps up with his instrument, how he is an integral part of a the whole band who plays as one, how he also plays with the audience and integrate it in his music, and how the audience, according to how intense it feels the pleasure, throws back an energy that increase tenfold the intensity of the moment. For our series of captures of these live concerts in New-York in October 2008, «Autumn in New-York», we will therefore try to stick to William Claxton’s visual approach as a realization principal. The musician, in the practice of his instrument, will be each time our major concern, but always kept in close relation to the other members of the group. Our goal is to seize his breath, his moves, his expression and his grimaces, his looks. In one word: to seize this tension, made of stage waves, that makes jazz a spectacle, a living art. Our prejudice for every capture is to show how an artist, a band, for the time of a show, writes in a way a story, in a little place located in a district of a town, inhabited by men and women who come, for an evening, to bring their contribution to a tale made of sounds and images, that the musicians offer on stage. For each movie, we will show where the concert takes place: in which area of New-York, in which club, and what its audience is. Like this in several key moments of the capture we will leave the club to shoot. We will see how the music played inside wonderfully sticks to the time that goes by, to the vibrating and never-ending beats of the New-York night.
5 A NEW FESTIVAL IN SCANDINAVIA The Project ÂŤJazzMix in ScandinaviaÂť will take place from October 15th 2010 to October 30th.
