Summer Events - Booking Now!: A visit to Maskell’s Workshop and Boiler Works Sunday 4th July

Feel like letting off steam……………?

Then come along to Maskell’s for a day of nostalgia, sights, sounds, colour and movement for every member of the family as you take a trip down memory lane to the days when steam power reigned supreme on the roads and around the farm. Mick and Carol Maskell have very kindly invited the section to visit their Workshop and Boiler Works just off the A6 in Bedfordshire where you will see a collection of old cars and lorries, tractors and steam engines all in working order. Very generously, Mick and Carol are also supplying a BBQ, light refreshments and drinks at no cost to members. However, they have asked that a small entrance fee of £5.00 per adult (children under 12 go free) be charged. Two thirds of the fees collected will be donated to the Bedford Hospital Primrose Cancer Unit while the remainder will cover the section’s administrative costs. The closing date for applications is Monday, 21 June Val Yates

Don’t forget:

The Paulerspury Section Annual Rally prepre-lunch tailgate party will take place on Sunday 20th June from 11.30 pm. The meeting point will be in Class 8 at Rodney and Carole Gunn’s Silver Derby Bentley 3 Position Drop Head Registration number JT 3790. (The one with the red hood!) See you there!

Page 3 Annual Picnic at Claydon House, Buckinghamshire Sunday 15th August

In the 1750s at his family seat in Buckinghamshire, Sir Ralph Verney set out to create a country house of extraordinary grandeur that would dazzle his wealthy neighbours and outdo his political rivals. Thirty years on he was facing financial ruin. Today the interiors that remain are among the most ambitious and lavish ever created in the 18th century. The Verney family has continually occupied Claydon for more than 550 years; the place is a testament to their fascinating fluctuating fortunes, from their close involvement in the English Civil War to the family connection with Florence Nightingale. The National Trust has kindly given its permission for us to park our cars outside the house and partake of our picnic. Afterwards be amazed by the extravagant room decoration and explore the rooms used by Florence Nightingale. You can also wander through the picturesque parkland and around the lakes as well as visiting the beautiful walled garden. The parish church, with the tomb of Sir Edmund Verney will also be open to view. There are many other attractions to see at Claydon, including watching an award winning chocolatier, a metalwork artist at work and a courtyard gallery with a stunning collection of unique high quality gifts for sale. The cost of this great day out is £10 per person (children under the age of 12 go free), which includes a glass of champagne on arrival and the section’s administrative costs. The closing date for applications is Monday, 12 July Chris & Linda Ball

Paulerspury Section Northumberland Rally Sunday 22nd May to Friday 27th May 2011 Have you ever driven up to Scotland through beautiful scenery in the very north of England and vowed to stop off there one day? Well now’s your chance to do just that as we are organizing a five night rally in Northumberland. There is so much to see and do in the area so we can promise you won’t be disappointed. The hotel is set in its own 10 acre woodland estate. In the castle building itself are the main dining room, lounge, bar and function room plus nine of the bedrooms. The remaining bedrooms are of a very high standard and have been recently converted from existing Grade1 listed buildings in the grounds. They all have fantastic views across the lawns to the castle. The price of the rally is based on the room choice as detailed below and will include dinner with wine, breakfast, afternoon tea and scones on arrive at the hotel, a reception on the first and last evenings at the hotel, entrance fees to two places of interest, plus full itinerary and local tourist map.
