Columbia Montessori School autocad | sketchup | podium | photoshop

Objective : The objective of this project is to develop an un-

derstanding of educational design through renovating a local 10,000 sqare foot Montessori school by providing condusive learning spaces for the Montessori teaching approach, bring the old building up to code based on industry standards, and update the overall design.

Concept: Located just miles from downtown Columbia, Missouri, in a residential area, CMS provides local families a comforting and safe learning environment for their children through the Montessori teaching approach. The Montessori approach is a learning method through self-directed activity, hands-on learning and collaborative play. This approach often is paired with minimalist design to better enhance the method.

Solution: The renovation of CMS trasitions the building into

the neighboring residential area, while remaining a unique space. A modern privacy fence allows safety and security for families and staff, as well as provides an expansive outdoor space for the children. Modern exterior finishes give the previously outdated building a fresh, new look.

Lake View Home autocad | sketchup | podium | photoshop

Objective : The objective of this project is to develop an un-

derstanding of residential design through designing a home on the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. The client is a family of four, with two young boys. The home should reflect their active lifestyle, as well as emphasize lake life living.

Concept: Located on a small peninsula, the site has sweeping

views of the lake. Lake of the Ozarks is a lake of many coves, and the site sits on the inner part of a cove, away from the hustle and bustle of the main channel. An open floor plan and large windows emphasizes the location of the home.

Solution: The site is sloped, with the home perched on the

top, extending out towards the water, giving a floating illusion when inside. Natural wood tones, incorporated with various shades of blue and neutrals allows the focus to be on the view. The exterior is inspired by a traditional farmhouse, however the finishes are modern and sleek, giving the home a very transitional feel.

Objective : The objective of this project is to develop an understanding of the design of a cultural space. The client is a local religious group whom just moved into a new space to create a downtown community center. There were few renovations needed, designing the space they had and updating the interior was the main goal.

Concept: As a community hub in downtown Columbia, Missouri, the space is welcoming and full of variety. The furniture is transitional, allowing for the space to be used for different acitivities.

Solution: Original brick walls and concrete floors give the space an industrial feel, along with dark wood and metal elements. The space is condusive to people of all ages, encouraging the community to spend time in the center.

3ds max conceptual model 3dsmax | photoshop

Objective : The objective of this project is to develop a con-

ceptual mass model, through sketching with geometric shapes, and mass modeling furniture pieces. The final conceptual model was built in 3DSMax, and designed as a residential home. Complete design was only required of one potential room , which had to include all three furniture pieces modeled in class, and rendered to depict reality.

Solution: With very little limitations, the setting of this home

is in the mountains, near a body of water. The space shown is designed as a living room, overlooking the view to outside. Each render features a piece of furniture modeled in 3DSMax. The below photos depict the overall mass model, as well as design elements to create a realistic design.

visual design “stipple project Objective : This project was completed in one of the first design courses required for the major. We were to choose an image and create three versions of that image. I chose an image of a sheep, as tribute to my love of Ireland. The three methods I chose were continuous line, hatch, and stipple. The drawings were created using fine tip pens, an original image and a lightbox. This project taught us the basics of design and the importance of hatching and layers.
