Hyperpigmentation is what occurs when certain spots or areas on the skin are darker than normal skin tone. It happens in a variety conditions including age spots and liver spots (caused by sun damage – “Solar lentigenes”), Melasma of Choalasma (due to hormonal changes), freckles (inherited from parents), acne scars (a result of acne lesions healing), and drug treatment (with amiodarone, tetracycline, cyclophosphamide, chloroquine and others). There are many different types of treatments for hyperpigmentation.
