Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme - Bournemouth Pitching Clinic Are you or do you know of a Dorset or Hampshire based small business seeking funding? Seed Mentors are proud to announce their second Bournemouth Pitching Clinic for the Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme, at which businesses will have the opportunity to present their business idea for funding. This is being held on Tuesday 23 July 2013 – there are ten slots available on a first come, first served basis. Seed Mentors are very pleased to be working in association with Ward Goodman Accountants and in particular Roger Duckworth, Small Business Director at Ward Goodman. We feel that this strategic partnership is a perfect fit for Seed Mentors as Ward Goodman maintains a pivotal role in promoting the value and benefits of SEIS and the positive impact that it will have on Small Business in the south. Each candidate company will have 30 minutes to present their business plan to our review committee. An accountancy and legal expert will also be present to field any specific business-based questions that may arise. The review committee will make the final Investment decisions within 14 days of this event and funding can be arranged thereafter. Green light for Seed EIS We were delighted that the FCA confirmed recently that EIS and Seed EIS were outside the scope of their ban on UCIS products being sold to retail investors. It confirmed our understanding that Seed EIS funds are an important part of the Government initiative to encourage small businesses to help kick start the economy. The benefits of Seed EIS This ruling now leaves advisers free to focus on the benefits of Seed EIS for their clients. In reality we expect sales to be made to High Net Worth investors, as it is they who are most likely to benefit from the generous tax benefits: • •
Income tax relief of 50% CGT relief of 14% this year, but 28% relief is still available if you use carry back.
Seed EIS also carries risk and reward - the reward of investing in companies that have the potential of growing fast. The risks of investing in small companies are unproven. Uniquely, though, Seed Mentors has a mandatory mentoring system for all the companies it invests in, to ensure that they receive the right expert advice when they need it. We think it is a very effective way of de-risking the investment.
