Evaluation for Idea Three •
Overall I feel that my third idea in general was more successful than my previous two ideas as conceptually the photos appeared more interesting and flared in terms of audacious colours. For this idea I focused on using appropriated images from magazines using inspiration from Daniel Gordon and various other appropriation artists such as Damien Blottiere and Ernesto Artillo who splice sections of people’s faces and overlay them with one another or in Ernest Artillo’s case some objects are used.

The main theory behind this set of photos was to select sections of a variety of models and pick out certain facial features and intersect them to create an entirely different face in a peculiar way by over exaggerating them and giving them multiple features. This was my interpretation of how the media depict features they favour from certain models in the fashion industry and enhance other assets which do not level with their own levels of beauty which to me create a fake image and is false advertisement.
In terms of visual and technical qualities I feel my set of photographs are extremely strong. This is due to the bold and eccentric colours which create an irrational atmosphere of and helps to give the photo life. I believe that this approach of appropriation worked considerably well compared to my other two sets as it seems daring and more adventitious. However, a criticism which may be noted is how in some images I could have refined the edges to make them smoother when cutting out features such as the eyes to give it a more rounded effect. Although, with the rough edges around the shapes it seems more daring and rebellious as the theme of the images seem animated, creating more dynamic images. The formal elements between the photos before they were edited were fairly different as I changed the intensity of colour and added in contrasts as well as the tone also as I wanted to add character and personality to the images which came across confident and loud. If I had more time with this project I would have liked to have created another six or so of these images to discover what other styles and formations of faces I could have created as well as adding in other physical development methods such as adding sequins or glitter of even physically burning some images which could represent how the media is destroying natural perceptions of beauty and replacing them with synthetic ones in which they use universal values in order to brainwash people into believing this is how beauty should be defined rather than allowing people to have their own perceptions.
