NWEA MAP TESTING IN MATH AND READING

Academic Performance results for all Grade KG2-9 students who took Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 testing. All Stamford students in grades KG2 through 9 take the NWEA Measurement of Academic Progress testing in the Fall and Spring of each academic year. This gives the school the opportunity to not only assess individual and group achievement levels against independent benchmarks but also the opportunity to measure the growth of individual students during the academic year. Individual data on student performance is provided to parents in the Fall and Spring of each year. The data presented in this publication is for the performance of students by grade level. The average performance of students at each grade level in Math and Reading is compared to benchmarks and also to expected growth. The overall conclusions from the Fall to Spring testing are that on average students at Stamford at all grade levels achieve a greater standard and improvement in their MAP/RIT scores than benchmarks in Math and Reading. This is due to the differentiated curriculum and the use of data in the school to support teaching and learning that is focused on individual student needs.

NWEA MAP NWEA MAP testing is based on American Education Reaches Out (AERO) standards in Math and in Reading. The standards are arranged into a Descartes framework, which allows the school to identify the goals for each student. Students are provided with a RIT score at each testing which is an average of the overall scores in all of the goal strands that make up the subject test. The growth in the RIT score can be assessed against benchmarks for all similar students taking the test.
