FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

MythBusters Star Jamie Hyneman to Speak at Marquette MILWAUKEE – Apr. 6, 2010 – Marquette University Student Government will host special effects expert Jamie Hyneman, from the award winning Discovery Channel show MythBusters, at the Weasler Auditorium on Apr. 12, 2010 from 7:30 to 9 p.m. MythBusters features Hyneman and his co-host Adam Savage as they test popular myths, Internet rumors and urban legends by conducting experiments using basic scientific elements. Most myths involve constructing various objects utilizing workshops, mechanical devices and sets to simulate the myth’s circumstances. Hyneman comes up with unique ideas to test theories that usually include visually stimulating explosives or vehicle crash tests. Hyneman will speak about what it is like to be a Myth Buster, dynamics of the show, relationships between cast members and what sparked his interest in using science to bust myths. His presentation will conclude with a period for questions. “Jamie appeals to such a wide group of students and really reaches what they are interested in— exploring the impossible. He is a great example of someone who followed his passion and used his education to create an exciting and fun career,” said Speakers Commissioner, Jessica Herrick. MythBusters began in 2003 and quickly became a hit television show. When not filming, Hyneman appears on many late night television shows and travels to colleges around the nation. This is a free event that all are welcome to attend. For more information on MUSG’s news and events, visit http://musg.mu.edu or contact the MUSG office, AMU 133.
