Capturing, Transitioning, Emerging The main program is a library where opportunity for urban functions stimulates the volume of people to make a functioning social gathering site. The library must be transformed innovatively to strike an interest in the current technological generation, this will be done by creating a more service- based (computer labs, auditorium, classrooms), and less collection based program. The Library is located in a developing area of Oslo, Norway in a transition phase to a Fjord City. The site is situated directly between the Central Station and the new Oslo Opera House neighboring a large fjord and positioned parallel to the Aker River. The Oslo Deichmanske Library is an active catalyst bridging the sites of the transportation hub, Central Station and the new SnĂ˜Hetta Opera House. This transition space uses innovation of program to lure one in and a natural current of circulation to direct one through the space and towards the focal fjord. The ultimate underlying concept is found through perspective, the way one views the site and how the frames created by the structure itself create areas of focus to attract a ow of movement.

Integration of three programs into one unit calls for a strict order and structure in some areas and a loose bound for others. As columns being a unit for performace and order in this library, hostel, community center, the column’s movement reflects the program in the space. All aspects are connected to a centralized main courtyard for a grounded green area in this highly influenced Chinatown building.

This Art and Culture center placed in the heart of New York City creates a center for the public to gather and spread information about art and culture but not disturb the current urban fabric negatively. The majority of the program is below grade with sloping grounds around the site to gather light. the arched canopy over of the site allows for pedestrian passage or the ability to walk beneath and permeate through the program below.

Making a project site speciďŹ c is an essential issue we face as designers. Taking place in a transition zone between uptown rural Cordoba and the downtown urban area, as well as being a transition space for travelers of all sorts, this project became a mesh of two programs while encompassing it’s own internal program. The project became a rigid structure internally to promote an order to the traveling transition space and stayed open to allow for a community gathering space and a spot that could pull together these two varying zones as travelers permeate through and pass above and below the site.

Dragspelhuset or “the accordion house” was created as a solution to site and build constraints on lake Ovre Gla in Sweden by 24H Architecture. The house gets its name by the extendable annex on the north side of the house. The annex was created to defy an ordinance that stated a land constraint for building too much in the area. The annex is a cantilever that doesn’t technically touch property so it’s not considered as built upon the land. During the summer is when the extended area is utilized the most. The open area allows for greater space inside the cabin and more air flow through the home. During the harsh Swedish winters is when the annex is retracted to make the space smaller and cozier and easier to heat.

Brown’s Brewery is expanding their brewing facility from Troy, New York to a rehabbilitated paper manufacturing facility located along the Waloomsac River in Hoosick Falls New York. The client Garry Brown, is creating a landmark in a rural farm town. The interesting opprotunity given at this site is its immediate location to a water source that generates enough power to run the new facility. In collaboration with a professional engineer, Brown’s is embarking on a hydro-electric powered brewery, relying soley on the river to power everything in the factory.
