GET STARTED PROGRAM

Our Get Started Program is a series of three complimentary appointments designed to support you in pursuit of your health and wellness goals. A wellness coach will meet with you to discuss your needs and interests and together you will develop an achievable plan for success. Whether you are new to exercise, have dabbled in it your whole life, or are comfortable in your regular program, we will help you make the most of your Y membership! Ask at our welcome or wellness center to GET STARTED today!

DIABETES PREVENTION

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA

ROCK CLIMBING

This archery program features equipment review, proper form, and practicing shooting and aiming. Through hands on learning and teaching to each child’s level participants will receive individualized attention and work on skills they need to improve. This program emphasizes fundamental skills, teamwork, fair play, and competition while having fun playing and learning about soccer. Space is limited. AQUATIC PROGRAMS AQUATIC CONDITIONING

SAFETY AROUND THE WATER

This Program is designed for those students who have graduated from stage 4 preschool and stage 6 youth, who express interest in swim team or progressing their stoke. There will be strong focus on the technical component of swim strokes and building the swimmers stamina for competition.

This Program introduces children to techniques used to stay safe around open water. They will learn how to help themselves, as well as other if faced with a water emergency. The basic swimming skills will be introduced, as well as safe practices in and out of the water. Those students who take part in safety around the water may continue with the swim program if desired.

MASTERS SWIM This class is for advanced swimmers who like to improve technique, follow a routine or just get a good workout. SWIM LESSON SELECTOR STAGE A WATER DISCOVERY Parents work with infants and toddlers to introduce them to the aquatic environment.

STAGE B WATER EXPLORATION Parents work with their children to learn fundamental safety and aquatic skills.

STAGE 1 WATER ACCLIMATION Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the pool.

It will be broken into two courses: one focusing on water rescue skills, the other on safety care skills – CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen Administration. AQUATIC CLASSES Gleason Family YMCA ADVANCED WATER SPORTS

Ages 6+ years For swimmers at Youth Stage 5 or higher skills looking for an alternative to traditional swim lessons. The focus will be on other aquatic pursuits including Wetball/Water Polo, Diving, Relays, Snorkling, Synchronized Swimming and classic pool games to build strength, endurance, teamwork and a life-long love of the water.

GFY RIPTIDES SWIM TEAM

Ages 6-18 years Seasonal Team (September – March) The swim team is co-ed, competitive (scheduled meets) and geared to help build endurance and improve technique while building a child’s social and physical potential. Swimmer must have good command of Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke and Breaststroke and be a YSOCO member.

SPRING 1 & SUMMER SWIM TEAM (runs in conjunction with regular aquatic program sessions) A non-competitive, off-season program designed to allow current swim team members to maintain conditioning and new swimmers to investigate competitive swim skills without actually having to compete in meets. Swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards of rudimentary Freestyle and Backstroke and be willing to learn Breaststroke and Butterfly. Evaluations for placement purposes are by appointment only.

NOTE: With all group aquatic programs, a minimum of three participants is required to run the class unless otherwise noted in class description.

SNAP – Special Needs Aquatic Program

Preschool (ages 3-5 years) Youth (ages 6+ years) Introduces children with diverse disabilities to the water. It will focus on water orientation/ acclimation, stroke development, aquatic safety, structured and free play. Children must be accompanied in the water by an adult (18+ years) during the program.

SWIM TESTING

Need a swim test for a sailing school, to crew a boat, for a GSA/BSA badge, for Tabor Academy orientation or other reasons? Please contact our Aquatics Department to schedule an appointment. A $5 fee will be assessed for simple tests (<15 minutes); a $15 fee will be assessed for tests of 16-30 minutes.

SPECIAL NEEDS OPEN SWIM

A swim time set aside for families with special needs to enjoy quiet time with family members. At least one member of the family must have a diversability to utilize the pool at this time.

PARENT/TOT OPEN SWIM

A quieter pool time for families with children under 6 years of age. Avoid some of the noise, splashing and distractions that may happen during other open swim times and enjoy pool time with parents & young children aged 0-5 years! An adult must accompany children in the water within arm’s reach at all times; no more than two children per adult for safety supervision reasons.

YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. Youth members who would like to use the strength and cardio equipment need to make an appointment for an orientation with the Health & Wellness staff. Y DIABETES PREVENTION PLAN

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. Stoico/FIRSTFED YMCA THE DANCE PROGRAM is a 10 month progressive program, ending with a recital performance in June. We provide a quality dance education at an affordable rate, concentrating on technique & performance. MUSIC MEDELY • Ages 18 months - 2 years Introduction to motor & social skills needed for dance & tumbling. Great for boys & girls. Introduction to the basic concepts of rhythm & movement using creative games. CREATIVE MOVEMENT • Ages 3-4 years Introduction to motor & social skills needed for dance & tumbling.
