WELLNESS PROGRAMS ADULT SELF DEFENSE Ages 18+

Learn the basics of self-defense while engaging in cardio workout. Become aware of your surrounding and develop the confidence, respect, and discipline required for self-defense. Wednesdays: 7:30pm - 8:30pm Members: $96 | Program Participants: $120

DIABETES PREVENTION

This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

TEAM BUILDING ADVENTURE COURSE

Groups will visit our low and high ropes for a customized program based on what your group’s goals and needs are this year. Adventure training has groups working together through a series of high and low elements to achieve a common goal. We will work with any group to help form a more cohesive team while improving communication skills as well as articulation and public speaking. Our goal is to help each individual challenge both their physical and mental capabilities. Team building programs are available during or after the school day. Half and full day programs available. Develop a love for all sports while encouraging teamwork and good sportsmanship. This non-competitive class is designed to help preschool age children develop coordination and begin to learn the basic concepts of sports to help them excel on the court or field. Our Get Started Program is a series of three complimentary appointments designed to support you in pursuit of your health and wellness goals. A wellness coach will meet with you to discuss your needs and interests and together you will develop an achieveable plan for success. Whether you’re new to exercise, have dabbled in it your whole life, or are comfortable in your regular program, we will help you make the most of your Y membership! YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM

MAKE A DIFFERENCE Experience the joy of helping a child learn The Fall River YMCA is seeking volunteers to engage and work with area youth in the BayCoast Bank Educational Achievement Center. We are looking for volunteers to help us in this important work! Lend your expertise while encouraging children to learn through interactive curriculum-based lessons and activities. Educational Achievement Center volunteers will: • Be provided with an orientatioin and ongoing training • Use existing curriculum or create their own based on their passions and interests • Commit to a least one hour a week after school for an 11 week session • Be at least 18 years of age • Have fun, be a role model and make a difference in the lives of children

STAGE 1 WATER ACCLIMATION Students develop comfort with underwater exploration and learn to safely exit the pool. STAGE 2 WATER MOVEMENT Students focus on body position and control, directional change, and forward movement in the water. STAGE 3 WATER STAMINA Students learn how to swim to safety from a longer distance. Rhythmic breathing and integrated arm and leg actions are introduced. STAGE 4 STROKE INTRODUCTION Students develop stroke technique in front crawl and back crawl and learn the breaststroke kick and butterfly kick. STAGE 5 STROKE DEVELOPMENT Students work on stroke technique in all major competitive strokes. STAGE 6 STROKE MECHANICS Students refine stroke technique in all major competitive strokes, learn about competitive swimming, and discover how to incorporate swimming into a healthy lifestyle.

TINY SLUGGERS T-BALL Ages 3 -5 Kick off spring with our pre-school T-ball league. Children will learn basic skills and techniques to become a future slugger. MOM & ME GYNASTICS

Ages 18 months - 3 years Our mom and me program is designed to introduce fun, but structured, movement to our young friends joined and assisted by mom, dad, or another responsible adult. TINY TUMBLERS GYMNASTICS Ages 3-5 Our Tiny Tumblers class is our preschool age gymnastics class designed to introduce basic body positions, movements, and FUN to your child! During the 45 minute class, your child will learn basic tumbling - improving strength, hand eye coordination, balance, and flexibility. We hope each class provides your child with new skills, increased confidence, and new friends! GYMNASTICS Age 5 and up

Our recreational gymnastics at a basic level focuses on instructional gymnastics, and the fundamentals necessary to move forward with beginner skills. Strength and flexibility are also a very big part of moving forward with their skills, so a strength routine is also introduced at this level. We will follow specific progressions necessary for children to excel in a safe, fun, and beneficial way to turn them into the little gymnasts they hope to be! YOUTH WELLNESS ORIENTATION Ages 8-13

Youth members who would like to use the strength and cardio equiptment need to make an appointment for an orientation with the Health & Wellness staff. The orientation will teach youth members how to safely and efficiently use the equiptment, and instruct them about general Wellness Center rules and etiquette. More than one appointment may be necessary depending on the youth member’s needs and understanding. Once training is completed, an access pass will be given. YMCA DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes reduce their risk for developing the disease by taking steps to improve overall health and well-being. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes. Y DIABETES PREVENTION PLAN This 12 month program helps overweight adults at risk for type 2 diabetes by taking steps to improve overall health and wellbeing. Participants work together in a small group facilitated by a trained Y lifestyle coach to achieve the program goals of reducing individual weight by 7% and building up to 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week for the purpose of reducing their risk for developing diabetes.
