P O R T FO L I O

T HE SPACE S T U DIO During my two weeks at The Space Studio I took on a live project to increase the space for classrooms and accommodate more students in the Parkside Building within Birmingham City University; Along with this I was given the task of transforming the current courtyard into an interesting social learning space to seat a larger number of students.

IMPRIN T

‘CHILL’ AREA

IMPRINT is a project designed to address the economic and social issue of the UK High Street‘s decline. Through the use of 3D printing and digital technologies, I created a shopping experience that cannot be found shopping online. IMPRINT takes users on a journey through the store, allowing customers to design and produce their own 3D printed items of clothing in an interactive and user focused environment. The concept takes advantage of RFID, Augmented reality and 3D printing technology.

‘PRODUCE’ AREA This area is equipped with 3D printers which cutomers can operate themselves to print off their desired clothing. The area contains seating to wait for their clothes to be printed. FAST FOOD BAR This sushi style bar allows users to enjoy 3D printed food for a shorter stay. Users can grab freshly printed food faster than in the dining area. DINING AREA This area has been designed to allow users to create their own food using digtal table tops, then print it off using the 3D printers placed at the end of the tables.

BOOTH AREA This area holds booths and digital screens where users can enjoy drinks from the bar and watch catwalk footage of 3D printed items that have been created in the store. CHILL OUT AREA The chillout area enables users to relax whilst they wait for their customised clothes to be printed. The area has virtual augmented reality headsets hanging from the ceiling to enhance the experience whilst waiting.

K INNEC T KINNECT is a service design that helps people address the worklife balance that also facilitates collaboration. It is an interior design solution that supports a change in the way that people work. The concept focuses on how work, life and play will overlap in the future by combining exercise and work. The pod aims to improve the health and well being of its users by overcoming common problems that workers face, for example, stress and backache; this also creates an active and interesting atmosphere. KINNECT addresses sustainability issues that current offices face, concerning energy consumption. The pod contains exercise machines, kinetic hand grips on a rock climbing wall and kinetic floor tiles to generate energy to power the pod; it also uses solar panels on the roof to increase energy levels, allowing KINNECT to be a self-sufficient temporary workspace.

SPENCERS This was a project to redesign and rebrand Spencer’s estate agents in Sheffield. As a small group we were given the task of working to the client’s brief and budget; during that time we had a site visit, a meeting with an interior designer and two pitches with the client. Our group won the “Best design for us” award and aspects of our design has been used in the rebranding of Spencer’s. From the designs we provided, Spencers decided upon our ‘Skyline of Sheffield’ idea and the colour scheme we chose as it met the brief of creating a sophisticated feel for the older buying market whilst keeping it modern for first time buyers.

The logo was used by Spencers and the store front had also been redesigned.

The space is open plan but has been sectioned off into three areas for functionality

The room has been created with storage in mind. As well as hidden storage, recycled lockers are made a feature.

The interior has been designed to have an eclectic style, combining old and new, to appeal to a wider audience
