Career Planning Newsletter
Are You Unsure of What Major to Choose? You‟re not alone! Three out of four entering freshman communicate doubt about their choice of major and close to two-thirds will end up switching majors at least once. Choosing a major is often viewed as an anxiety-provoking process by both students and parents. In reality, it is an exciting time to really engage in some soul searching and self-discovery. Generally, choosing a major and/or a career consists of evaluating one‟s values, skills, and interests. The Career Planning Center has resources to assist you in making this important decision. Here are a few good ways to get started: Make an appointment with the Career Planning Center to complete one or more of our three self-assessments and discuss your values, skills and interests. Utilize the Career Planning Library to see a list of majors and how they relate to particular occupations. Speak with faculty. They can describe their majors and explain what their previous students have gone on to do. Attend career fairs. Learn more about what recruiters are looking for. Find an Alumnae Mentor. You can hear from someone who was once in your shoes. Mentors are interested in sharing their academic and career paths with current students. Do an internship! What better way to test out what was learned in the classroom than by using that knowledge in a professional setting? Major Discovery Series will help you discover some possible career choices for the programs offered by the College (accessible from our website).
The Career Planning Center‟s library is located right in the Allen House and is open Monday through Friday 8:30am-4:30pm!
