APPROACH TO THE HISTORIC CITY CENTER OF BRNO - CITY SHORTCUTS Creating a new urban space in the form of urban shorthand that connects the street Nádražní and the area of the Capuchin Square, aisle Václav Havel and the gardens under the Cathedral of saint Peter and Paul. EASIER OVERCOMING THE HEIGHT DIFERENCE Creating a barrier - free access closer to downtown - the elevator shaft is placed into an already existing shaft that leads into tha alley Václav Havel. LOCATION ADVANTAGES Bomb shelter already exists The entire enclosure is acoustically isolated Convenient location on the outskirt of the historic city center LOCATION DISADVANTAGES Limited space IDEA Creting so. “city shortcuts” will get better availability to the city center. Designing a restaurant or café in the space of the shelter - a quiet section near the Central Station. Use of unlit space so they can serve as part of an “invisible exhibition”etc. FOLLOWING THE PROPOSAL TO MOVE THE CENTRAL STATION Reaction to moving the main station building. Good connection to the design of the Central Station building on the shelter toward to the center of the city.

Proposed state

AT3 Residential colonies Bauerova CEEC Collaboration with Adéla Vepřková Relation Brno-CEEC The exhibition area is located approximately 2km south-west from the historic city center, located in the cadastral area Pisárky. The complex belongs to Trade Fairs Brno, which operates year-round campus fairs, exhibitions, shows, concerts, etc. Idea At the beginning we defined several aspects. which we subsequently held in the design. The main challenge was to create an imaginary boundary, whether in relation to the fair or street Bauerova. Another idea was to keep the existing valuable objects or eventually complied partially, when we amended the Velodrome and also two smaller objects in the left part of the territory.

Concept From massive barrier along the shattered houses in the park. In Bauer’s streets creating a barrier building to prevent further spread of noise into the buildings. Followed by the area covered by block development and close to the castle there is a group of houses. CEEC guarantees separation from the residential area by water trough, which follows the boundary of the area and campus.

Parterre

Transport The whole area is created as so called Zone 30. Transport is divided into two types: residential zone and driveaway to the objects. At the parking space at the small houses is designed one way communication. Two entrances to the underground parking are provided by ramps at the center of the area in relation to the street Křižkovského. Through the area runs bike trail, which continues along the street Bauerova. Pedestrians are in the area favored over vehicular traffic by creating a so-called zone 30 over the entire surface of the area. Underground parking is mostly used by residents of apartment blocks. Each underground parking has two floors. Connection between street Křižkovského and Bauerova is designed behid the area, where we propose a roundabout that would facilitate connections from all directions.

We designed a group of houses. Each group consists of three houses (one detached and two semi-detached house) and has a semi-public space. This arrangement of the three buildings is repeated in the area between the blocks and tha castle. Each group is turned towards the south to get as much light into the houses as possible and sunlight for solar energy through solar collectors. On the roofs of houses is a place for flower beds (growing vegetables, herbs, etc.). Parking is common for three or four groups of houses.

Collaboration with Adéla Vepřková

In the current state of this object we wanted to preserve as much as possible. To maintain the structural system of the building. We designed on the first floor a large hall for social events and a cafe, which stretches over two floors. To adequately illuminate the cafe has two skylights. Interaction with space infront of the building allows a glass wall. On the rest of the second floor there are flats of different sizes. Some apartments are maisonettes, each containing a skylight, which can be used as a terrace.

In the central zone is a group of blocks, consisting of shape „L and U“. There are terraces which allows to the other floors get sunlight.

In our proposal we decided keep only partially this object “Velodrom“. Further landscaping is to reduce the park about 3 m below ground. It creates a space for the amphitheater. There can be held various theatrical performances, lectures and screenings in the open air. Preserved part of the Velodrome should be used mainly for students apartments. student housing communication Facilities amphitheater shared space

-Baugruppe Concept, function, basic shape

Concept The main concept of my project is the cut that seperated two volumes of the loft in order to connect courtyard and square (from public to semi-public space). The two volumes are connected with core which consits of staircase and a platform. Each of divided parts has it´s own function. In the bigger part is situated an ART center with an EXPO space on the ground floor, which is meant for artists from the ART center. There are smaller and bigger studios/ateliers and kitchen with dining area in order to build a community between artists. In the Expo area is a space for different kinds of exhibitions, the space is flexible - panels can be build there to divide the space. In the smaller volume is situated a bike shop/repair and above the ground floor are apartments. There are four types of apartments including one mezonet.

Mezonet apartment

The staircase which connects the two volumes is designed from dark/black concrete in order to make the separation more visible and it also gives us a nice element containing camber staircase. The walls in the ART center are designed from translucent concrete, so it gives us dimmed light from the studios/ateliers into the hall, and on the top of the walls there is line of glass. The translucent concrete gives a nice atmosphere inside the ART cente for example at night. In the ART center are two cores - one contains toilets for whole floor and in the other there is a small kitchen also for whole floor. On top of the bigger volume is green roof. In the other part of the loft on the ground floor is a bike shop with a space for workshop, which customers can see through glass window in the shop. On the ground floor there is also a space for garbage containers which belongs to the whole loft. In the first floor to the fourth are designed apartments - in total 4 types.

We had to create an abstract self-portrait model, The ribs of the model characterize the closure and everything is centered inward - the introvert. The 3D model is printed on a powder-coated 3D printer and further cut and sprayed in white and gold. The whole model rests on a black-pleated glass mat.

CONCEPT The main element of the proposed interior is the socalled BOX, which is then repeated and imprinted on bookshelves, receptions, in the modified facade. The BOX has various uses - book shelves, pull-out storage compartments, and sofas. By compiling individual elements, we have achieved a systematic arrangement interior and possible space utilization variability.

In the case of a lecture, workshop or other activities in the library, it is possible to separate the main part of the borrowing space from the rear corridor by sliding acoustic doors, which can be moved according to needs. In the lecture room it is possible to fit about 50 people. The design counts with the opening of a part of the courtyard accessible from the back of the borrowing areas and the creation of a pleasant outdoor sitting in the summer month.

KNIHOBOX Collaboration with:

Veronika Kučírková, Matúš Lazor

Floor solutions and the primary color of the shelves have the original natural texture of the wood, which is complemented by a random color combination. The walls are mostly white with glass elements. Seating elements, such as modular boxing seating and reading area, are considered to be textile upholstery.

40

DEM2 Workshop - Mahenova knihovna student competition KNIHOBOX One of the main elements in the space is the multifunctional stage, which includes the socket system. The drawers are different in content = mattress, table, seat cubes and storage compartments. Sitting boxes can also serve as a lego for children. The concept has practically set the direction of furniture design. The box theme was rewritten into the storage space and racks that created a modular system of squares and rectangles randomly arranged. The module has made it possible to use space not only for rack storage, but also for tray drawer or reader corner.

The shed protrudes from the side to the street can be used as a notice board. The flower pots are placed under the windows, revitalize and refine the facade and correspond to the overall concept of the design. An important moment of the facade is the location of so called “KNIHOBOX” - box next to the entrance for returning books to the library past the opening hours.
