Freetown High School Saturday, October 8, 2011 For those of us over 50,

We Have Lived the Green Thing! In line at the store, the cashier told the older woman that she should bring her own grocery bag because plastic bags weren't good for the environment. The woman apologized and explained, “We didn't have the green thing back in my day.” The clerk responded, “That's our problem today. The former generation did not care enough to save our environment.” He was right; our generation didn't have The Green Thing in its day. Instead, we ●returned our milk bottles and pop bottles to the store so they could be sterilized and refilled. ●walked places instead of climbing into a vehicle. ●washed the baby's diapers and hung them on the line. ●had one TV or radio, if we were lucky. ●refilled writing pens with ink and razors with blades instead of tossing them away. Join us on Saturday, October 8th, as we reminisce on ways we have all lived The Green Thing.

Alumni, faculty, Brownstown/Pershing graduates, and friends are invited to celebrate our 28th Reunion on Saturday, October 8, 2011, as we ensure the memory of Freetown High School lives on. Registration begins at 11:30 am at the Freetown Gym. From 11:30—12:45, we encourage you to visit with old friends. The program begins at 1:00 pm. Refreshments and a memory-filled bus tour with Dan Robertson will follow the program.

May the memory live on!

Try to make it to 80 – the best time of life I have good news for you. The first 80 years are the hardest. The second 80 are a succesion of birthday parties! Once you reach 80, everyone wants to carry your baggage and help you up the steps. If you forget your name or anybody else's names, or an appointment, or your own telephone number, or promise to be in three places at the same time, or can't remember how many grandchildren you have, you need only explain you're 80. Being 80 is a lot better than being 70. At 70 people are mad at you for everything. At 80 you have a perfect excuse no matter what you do. If you act foolishly, it's your second childhood. Everyone is looking for symptoms of softening of the brain. Being 70 is not fun at all. At that age they expect you to retire to a house in Florida and complain about your arthritis (they used to call it lumbago), and you ask everybody to stop mumbling because you can't understand them. Actually, your hearing is about 50% gone. If you survive until you are 80, everybody is surprised that you are still alive. They treat you with respect just for having lived so long. Actually, they seem surprised that you can walk and talk sensibly. If you ask me, life begins at 80... people forgive you for anything! -Edith Young, Resident of Pines Village and printed in the “News and Views” of Indiana Assn. of Homes for the Aging, Inc.
